Jump The Shark

Flipping to the next page of the book I was reading, I glanced down at a still sleeping Dean with his head in my lap. He stirred a little.

We were parked just by a bay in the middle of an empty field. Sam leaned against the hood of the Impala, brushing his teeth.

Evie--who decided today was the day to wake up at the crack of dawn--was playing by the water. I kept a close eye on her seeing as it was mostly rocks near the shore in the area.

"Si." Dean mumbled, rolling onto his other side and wrapping an arm around my waist.

"Finally decided to join the land of the living, babe?" I asked.

Dean groaned, rolling onto his back then onto his stomach as he pushed open the door. He stumbled as he tried to climb over me, falling out of the car.

"Have a nice trip?" I asked.

"Don't be a smartass this early in the morning." Dean told me.

"It's six-thirty, calm down."

"Hey. How'd you sleep?" Sam asked.

"How do you think?" Dean replied, standing and stretching. "I'm starving. Let's get breakfast."

"You just opened your eyes ten seconds ago." I said.

"Exactly." He said. "Food now. Where is my rugrat? She'll agree with me. Rugrat?!"

"Daddy!" Evie spun around, jumping from rock to rock until she could run toward him.

"Where are you getting breakfast?" Sam asked. "We're like two hours from anything."

"Yeah, because God forbid we have a nice bed to sleep in for once." Millie remarked.

"But I'm hungry now." Dean said, leaning down to catch Evie in his arms.

I got out of the car, shutting the door behind me. "You are a child."

"There's probably still a sandwich in the backseat." Sam suggested.

"Don't eat it. Please." I said. "There's no way in hell it's still good."

Dean rolled his eyes, setting Evie on her feet as he reached into the backseat through the open window and grabbed a brown paper bag.

"It could kill you." I stated.

"Oh, that's just dramatic." Dean replied, opening the bag and sniffing whatever Godforsaken thing was in there. He gasped--far too dramatically--leaning back against the car.

Evie laughed at his dramatic response.

"See? It could kill you." I said.

"It's tuna." Dean stated.

"Wow, tuna, scary." Millie said.

A cell phone began to ring.

"There's cell service all the way out here?" I asked.

Dean tossed the killer sandwich back into the car before patting his pockets.

"Daddy, five." Evie held out her hand.

"Cool." Dean gave her a high five before leaning through the window to reach into the glove department.

"No, five." Evie insisted.

"Five?" Dean repeated, grabbing one of the many phone from the glove department and hitting his head on the window as he stood up. He groaned.

Evie laughed a little. "Yep."
