When The Levee Breaks

"Negative." I whispered, staring down at the test. "It's negative."

"Oh." Dean said, joining my side once more.

"I mean...it isn't really the best time anyway." I shrugged. "Between Sam and the world ending and Evie and Wyatt are still so young..."

Dean placed a hand on my shoulders. "You can still be disappointed. It's okay."

"I know." I sighed. "I shouldn't have said anything. I should've just...kept it to myself until I knew for sure. I'm sorry for making you worry."

"It's okay, angel." Dean kissed my head. "It's okay."

___

Dean pulled open the small slot of the panic room door.

"Okay, let me out. This is not funny." Sam said.

"Damn straight." Dean agreed.

"Dean, come on. This is crazy."

"No. Not until you've dried out."

"Look, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have lied to you. Just...open the door." Sam pleaded.

"You don't have to apologize." Dean shrugged his shoulders. "It's not your fault. It's not your fault you lied to me over and over again. I get it now. You couldn't help it.:

"I'm not some junkie." Sam snapped.

"It's okay, Sam. We're gonna fix this." I told him.

"Really?" Dean asked. "I guess I've just imagined how strung out you've been lately."

Sam scoffed. "You two are actually trying to twist this into some kind of ridiculous drug intervention?"

"If it smells like a duck."

"Dean, I'm not drinking the demon blood for kicks. I'm getting strong enough to kill Lilith."

"Either way, you're addicted." I stated. "You're hooked, Sam. Even if you wanted to quit...I'm not sure you could."

"Strong?" Dean repeated.

"Yeah." Sam said.

"This is about as far away from strong as you can get. Try weak." Dean corrected. "Try desperate. Pathetic."

"Killing Lilith is what matters. Or are you so busy being self-righteous you forgot about her? Or maybe you're too busy living in the illusion you've buried yourself in with you're new family."

"Oh, Lilith's gonna die. Bobby, Si, and I will kill her, but not with you." Dean told him.

"You're not serious." Sam said.

"Congrats, Sammy. You just bought yourself a benchwarmer seat to the apocalypse."

"Dean, look--No, wait--" Sam said as Dean shut the small door. Sam banged his fist against the door, calling out as Dean turned and walked back toward me as I stood at the bottom of the stairs.

_____

Bobby handed Dean a glass of whiskey as we all stood in the living room. Sam was screaming downstairs, begging for it to stop. He was hallucinating whatever it was. I rubbed Dean's back, trying to calm him.

"How long is this gonna go on?" Dean asked.

Bobby sighed, leaning back in his chair behind his desk. "Here, let me look it up in my demon detox manual. Oh, wait. No one ever wrote one."

Evie sat on his knee, half-asleep. "Sammy otay?"

"Sam will be okay." Bobby told her. "No telling how long it'll take though." He covered Evie's ears. "Hell, or if Sam will even live through it."

A phone rang.

Bobby picked it up. "Hello?" He asked. "Suck dirt and die, Rufus. You call me again, I'll kill you."

Evie giggled a little.

"That's...lovely." I remarked as Bobby set the phone down.

"What's up with Rufus?" Dean asked, pacing in front of the desk.

"He knows." Bobby sighed. The phone rang again. He picked it up. "I'm busy, you son of a bitch. This better be important." Bobby's eyes went wide, shock overtaking his features.

____

"The news. The news ain't good." Bobby stated, handing a paper over to Dean.

"This is what Rufus called about?" Dean asked. "'Key West sees 10 species go extinct.'"

"Yep. Plus, Alaska. Fifteen-man fishing crew all stricken blind, cause unknown." Bobby said. "New York, teacher goes postal, locks the door, kills exactly 66 kids."

"Seals." I mumbled.

"Yeah. I looked them up. There's no doubt about it." Bobby continued. "All seals. Breaking, fast."

"How many are left?" Dean asked.

"Who knows? Can't be many." Bobby shrugged his shoulders. "Where the hell are your angel pals?"

"Something's wrong with them." I stated, leaning against the window and looking out into the night as I stood by the couch where Evie and Wyatt were sleeping.

"I'm just wondering." Bobby began, moving to lean against the front of his desk.

"What?" Dean asked, tossing the papers down onto the desk.

"The apocalypse being nigh and all, is now really the right time to be having this little domestic drama of ours?" Bobby asked.

"What do you mean?" Dean asked.

"Well, I don't like this any more than you do but...Sam can kill demons." Bobby stated. "He's got a shot at stopping Armageddon."

"So what?" Dean asked. "Sacrifice Sam's life, his soul, for the greater good? Is that what you're saying?  Times are bad, so let's use Sam as a nuclear warhead?"

"Look, I know you hate me for suggesting it. I hate me for suggesting it." Bobby replied. "I love that boy like a son. All I'm saying is...maybe he's here right now instead of on the battlefield because we love him too much."

"I don't think you can ever love anyone 'too much.'" I mumbled.

____

Dean had disappeared off into the rows and rows of old junk cars in Bobby's yard two and a half hours ago, trying to call out to Cas or somebody who would listen.

He was probably on some self-sacrificing journey right now. It's who he is. Dean will figure out a way for it to be him on the chopping block before Sam or me.

"They think it should be him, to stop it all." Sorceress told me, appearing at my side.

"Dean?" I asked.

"Yes, they think he is Michael's one true vessel." Sorceress traced the length of my arm.

"If he is...you said we were soulmates or whatever with Cain...how can Dean be connected to Michael the archangel and Cain?" I asked.

"Are you worried about our relationship?" Sorceress asked. "Is it growing weak? Do you fear our love will leave?"

"No...I...just have this odd feeling." I sighed.

"We'll be summoned soon enough." Sorceress told me.

"By who?"

"Whoever gets to us first."
