Y/n had been dating Lin for five years. Best five years of her life. She'd never thought that their relationship would last. She was in her senior year and so was he. After she gave up on medicine, her life suddenly became easier. It was all fun and she felt like God was giving her what she never got throughout her childhood. She felt like it was all Lin. It was Lin who first approached her when she had zero friends. It was Lin who discovered her inner extrovert. She didn't know she even had social skills if you think about it. She felt grateful for him, every single day. They were once in her dorm studying together when Lin's phone rang. He picked up and started getting up from his chair but she sat him down again and got out of the room to give him privacy. Throughout the five years they'd spent together, never has he ever gotten out of the room to make a phone call. Y/n started getting suspicious but then took a deep breath. Calm down, Y/n. Lin is loyal and you can trust him with your life. She listened to that voice inside of her and waited for him to call on her from inside the room. When she walked back in she asked him about it, "Who was that?"

He cleared his throat, "It's um... a friend."

She nodded but wasn't really satisfied. She ignored it and went back to studying. The next couple of weeks, Y/n and Lin drifted apart a little. He was always calling or texting someone. She could almost swear she heard a female voice a lot when he took calls. She started getting bored. She felt like he was neglecting her. She almost thought he was cheating with that mysterious female voice in his phone. But she also knew that Lin was way too loyal to do so. Her boyfriend was an exploding nuclear bomb of energy and he had many friends, a bunch of them female. That's how she got to know him in the first place. One day, she decided to finally face him with her thoughts. She came up to him, "Lin, can we talk?"

He raised his eyebrows in surprise, "Oh, I actually wanted to talk, too."

"Good! Now can we go somewhere more private?"

"Sure! Can we go to the library?"

She was surprised by that but shrugged, "Sure."

They headed together to the library. There, Y/n wasn't angry but she wasn't calm either. She really wanted to know why he was changing. When they got there, Y/n felt Lin's warm hands covering her eyes. She asked, "What?!"

He suddenly sounded very nervous, "Sorry."

They walked into the library and Lin's nervous tone somehow became even more shaky and scared, "Will you please keep your eyes closed?"

"Uh, sure?"

She could feel him taking a deep breath on the back of her neck, "Okay." He took his hands off her face but she still kept her eyes closed.

Suddenly a voice - many voices - screamed, "SURPRISE!"

She opened her eyes to see the sight of her boyfriend on one knee, holding open a small box with the most beautiful ring she'd ever laid eyes on. It was a silver ring with a small emerald - her favourite gemstone - in it. Lin had a very sweaty face and a nervous smile on it. She thought he looked handsome. The whole library was empty except for the both of them and their whole friend group. Many of them were filming her and she actually liked it because she wanted that moment to be saved with her for the rest of her life. Lin started talking, "Y/n Y/L/n, this library is gonna hold our best memories forever. It was where we first met and where I'm now doing this. Y/n, from the moment I saw you, I knew that I had to get to know you. You completely crushed me when you hated me at first. That cup of coffee was my last resort. And it worked! I knew you and started falling for you day after day and month after month. I've never in my life seen a human so stunning and perfect and kind. With time, you've become my favourite person. You took out the best out of me. I always wanted to impress you and that's how and why I managed to become a better person. For you! So, now I'm asking you this life changing question...Y/n Y/L/n, would you marry me?"

Tears started forming in her eyes, "Lin, I- I'm speechless. That was thoughtful and beautiful and-"

He chuckled and interrupted her, "Y/n, all you had to say was 'Yes, I will marry you'."  Recalling at the joke they'd shared years before.

She laughed and whiped some tears that had escaped her eyes, "Yes, I will marry you. Lin-Manuel Miranda, I will marry you!"

He slipped the ring onto her ring finger and she helped him up. With the biggest smile on her and Lin's faces, she felt like only he existed in the whole world. She cupped his face in her eyes and kissed him fiercely then screamed, "I love you!" They both laughed then looked at their friends. Lin gestured to Lily, "I mean all that wouldn't have been possible if Lily hasn't helped me."

The realisation finally hit her, "Wait. That's why you always were busy and ignored me?!"

"Y/n, why would I ever intentionally neglect you?!"

"I don't know, you're way too perfect for that."

He smiled big and kissed her on the cheek. They took a couple of photos and called friends who weren't with them. Y/n texted her sister,

Heyyy

She responded immediately,

Sissy♡: Heyy what's up? Did you discover why that toerag was neglecting ya?

Hey hey calm down Lin's amazing

Sissy♡: Anyone who neglects my older sister is a toerag, anyway did you know?

Yeah...

Sissy♡: Looks like big news. Are you pregnant?

NO! After marriage, remember?

Sissy♡: Uh huh
Sissy♡: So what is it???

HE WAS PREPARING FOR A PROPOSAL!

Sissy♡: HE PROPOSED?
Sissy♡: OH MY GOD CONGRATSSSS
Sissy♡: Tell. Me. Everything.

Okay okay call me!

Lin cleared his throat, "Sorry for looking into your phone, but did your sister seriously call me a toerag?!" He chuckled, "Out of all insults, a toerag?!"

She chuckled, "We don't like these other mean insults. Besides, she loves you!"

"And I love you."

"Lin, since we're now engaged, I need to talk to you about something."

"Ok let's just slip out and let them do their thing."

"My dorm, okay?"

"Uh huh."
