The world is in complete ruin. I notice burning buildings in the distance, the corpses of old friends I was very fond of and loved much scattered about. Tears start springing into my eyes and begin streaming down my face. Such a display weakness is forbidden among the witches, but... Silas is a monster. Silas may be partially human, but he has no humanity. He caused this destruction. All my friends and family are no longer among the living. My blood is boiling with rage and I feel ashamed to look up at Silas, ashamed at the knowledge that he was my best friend. Ashamed. Almost nothing is worse for a witch. Almost nothing. He has me pinned to the ground with his signature sword hovering over my chest, ready to pierce my heart.
Just before the sword breaks my skin, I muster what's left of my energy to utter my last words; "Goodbye, old friend."
I woke up with a start. I try to scream for help, but realize that someone has their hand covering my mouth. I attempt to lash out out of instinct. I hate nothing more than having my senses nullified. Then, I come to my senses and realize it's just my mother, trying to keep my quiet so I didn't wake the whole house up.
"Same nightmare as always?" She asks lovingly, although I can sense some fear in her voice. I look up, waiting for her to take her hand off my mouth. She lifts her hand off my mouth and backs away as she waits for a response, giving me space. She knows how much I need my space after what happened with Silas all those years ago.
"Yes, only this one was more terrifying than all the others. Mom, I'm scared!" I say, my voice barely above a whisper and with so much fear you could hardly make out my words. A motherly fire sparked into my mother's eyes as she steps closer to me.
"You must never, NEVER, admit fear. You are a brave girl, Syna. You will be able to get through this. I will help you." My mother said with a loving and comforting voice as she put her hand on my shoulder. She then turned and left the room, leaving me to get dressed and ready for the day.
After my ni-...No. It's best to not mention it. Maybe then I can forget about it and forget about Silas. At breakfast we had pancakes, bacon and fried eggs.
"Have you woken up Dad yet?" My brother asked, picking at his eggs.
"No, Rosn, I have not. Now eat your breakfast!" Mom exclaimed in an exasperated tone.
"Mom, should I wake Dad up, since I have finished breakfast?" I ask politely, setting my fork down on my empty plate.
"Go ahead, Syna." My mother turns to me with a warm smile. "He will be in a better mood if his daughter wakes him up, instead of his son," She turns to Rosn with a hard glare before turning back to me with a motherly love in her eyes. "who can't do anything correctly." Mom says lovingly as Rosn looks at his plate and fiddles with his food. I go upstairs and walk into my parents' bedroom(something I have been refraining myself from doing if I could help it), to find Dad snoring softly. I go over to the bed and gently shake him to wake him up.
"Whaddu wahn?" Dad said sleepily.
"Dad, wake up!" I say.
"Siyneah? Issthah you?" Dad says, a little more awake.
"Yes Dad, it's Syna, not the idiot." I say with an eye roll.
"Rosn is a jerk and he gets us some dirty looks, but the last thing he is, Syna, is an idiot. He is really smart, and he loves you. I promise." Dad assures me, now that he's completely awake now.
At spell practice, I keep flunking my spells! When I tried to make a ring into a necklace, I made it into a bracelet. The only spell I know by heart is the sleep spell. 'Atsunum' . Works wonders on Rosn. Whenever I want him to shut up, I just cast a sleep spell. I want to figure out the "close your mouth spell" that will be better than the sleep spell! I think it's something like "Closa mothietecso". Though I still have a way to go. I look at my big book of spells while putting on MageMasher22 playing Dragon Quest VIII in the background. I flip to the page where it translates to "Spells to Change Objects into Other Objects". Hopefully I can get better at performing magic if I study long and hard for the next few hours.
