The investigator
While I'm sit there, hoping this is a dream, another knock rings through the motel room.
"I know you're in there Serena." His voice sounding raspy and low as if he was tired. Getting up, debating on opening the door.
"He said he's not the bad guy." I whisper to myself. Swinging the door open, he stands there towering over me. He has to be at least 6'3. Examining him head to toe, noticing he's covered in cuts with a massive bruise around his left eye contrasting against his tan skin.
"What the fuck happened to-" My question being interrupted by his rough voice.
"May I come in?" He asks, stabling himself on the doorway.
"Why should I let you in?" I sternly question him.
"I'll explain when I'm inside." He states a little breathless.
I move out of the way, watching him walk towards the table in the corner of the room, sitting down.
Being jerked from my thoughts "You really have a staring problem you know that." His brown eyes meeting mine.
I smile "Well kind of hard not to with how you look. Which brings me back to, What happened to you?" I ask.
Sitting across from him. I look up seeing his face drop.
"I have good news and some bad." Nodding at him to continue he looks at me with an expression that's asking if I'm positive.
"Continue." I say.
"Seeing me in the back of the SUV must have confused you. What you saw wasn't anything bad. The little girl's name is Darla, I 'bought' her from this group of men that work for an organization called 'Sinister X'."
"Wait, bought her?" I raise my voice, jumping up.
"Not, what you think. That was the only way to get her out of there." He reassures as I sit back down.
"So Darla she's safe?" I ask.
"Yes, she is safe, currently we're looking for her family." He looks around, looking as if he's thinking.
"What's the bad news?" I ask as he finally meets my gaze.
"Your friend Ashley, I believe she's been moved. I don't know where to." The words falling from his mouth all I can do is freeze, feeling as if I've been pushed into the deep end.
"She was just there. That's to fast." I whisper.
Trying to gathering my thoughts I realize he said her name.
"Wait, how do you even know her name?" My eyes widen.
"Let's not forget how you've been sneaking around ever since the airport." I say raising my voice at him.
I don't understand how he even found out about my situation also, who I've been looking for and now he's sitting in my motel room.
"Look, I don't know if this will explain everything but, part of my job is to search for people on the dark web. Seeing you" he pauses looking down.
"I was stunned. You were, brightness shining through all the suffering. Watching you be so determined and hopeful looking for your friend I decided to help." Finishing his sentence I can't help but, admire? Appreciate? My thoughts were starting to blend together.
"You really need to shower." Is all my mind could make up to say at the moment. Watching him smile looking down at himself.
"I'll explain this later, sorry for getting off track. Do you mind if I shower here?" He asks rubbing one of his eyes.
