The Light
I honestly could care less about if her opinion changed on me and yet, here I am still absolutely enamored with her. The way she handles herself around me doesn't fail to turn me on. Her in my shirt, fuck, she drives me insane. The times I've shown a different side of me it seems she just accepts it and moves on. Though, I can see the way her body reacts to my touch. Soon her crazy will match mine. My little hell fire, only just a small fluttering flame for now.
I left her motel room a few hours ago after we entered the room I explained everything I found while in the subway. But here I sit watching her on a camera I set up when she was in the shower. I've never been the guy that would stalk or be utterly obsessed but, when a woman like Serena shows up, your morals go out the window. She remains the object of my desires always plaguing my mind, putting me on edge twenty-four fucking seven.
I've decided that whether we find Ashley dead or alive. We will find her, not that I actually give a shit about her. If Serena wants her found, consider it done. She's typing away on her keyboard the same determination returning from the first time I saw her. This woman might be the death of me. Racking my hand through my hair, a knock echoes through the room. Heading out of my room, grabbing my gun on the way over to the entry hallway.
"Who is it?" I ask, now inches away from the door.
"Hey man, it's Bray." Brandon's voice coming through the door has me holstering my gun behind my back. Opening the door, he stands there in a all black suit.
"What's the occasion? Have a date?" I ask, sarcasm settling in my questions.
"Dude I wish but, no this is strictly for business. Heading to Manhattan, gotta go undercover. I'm going to be detective Puralta for a few days." His statement not surprising me I know he does work on the side, Bray's one of the smartest men I know. Whenever he goes undercover I don't question his motives.
"Alright then, have your phone on you just in case. Don't forget about the task we currently have." The sternness in my voice completely unnecessary but, he understands the importance of my interests.
"It's just some work for the Lovius family" he gives a small nod before continuing "you will be able to track me, I sent you the link to the device but, since you were on the way, I wanted to inform you in person. Contact me if you need anything. Later." He turns away, flipping me a peace sign. The Lovius family is connected to the Mafia but, they specifically don't kill the innocent. Bray is their on call 'detective'.
Closing my door, I grab a second cup of coffee heading back to my room to see my little hell fire. Sitting down, I notice she's asleep at her set up. I still can't wrap my head around almost killing her in my sleep, she's the last person I want to see dead at my feet. If I woke to the sight of her lifeless body at my feet. I will die alongside her but, that won't happen, I will accept death with open arms if it means she lives.
Picking up my phone I tap on her name. I might have found her number from her phone. Watching the monitor, I see her phone buzzing next to her. Watching her stir a bit as she wakes, her head turning towards the phone, I see her beautiful ocean eyes flicker open. Her hand moves from underneath her head grabbing the phone before she rolls her eyes tossing the phone back down.
She doesn't want to answer. Funny. I can play into your game. Waiting for the call to end to record a voicemail. Hearing the beep, I start to speak, lowering my voice a bit
"Hey little flame, if you don't pick up the next call. Say goodbye to your dear friend Ashley." Hanging up, I glue my eyes to the monitor. Your move sweetheart. Seeing her screen light up. She stares a bit before finally picking up her phone. Her eyes widen, I can see the panic rising within her while she listens. Feeling my phone buzz in my hand a smile appears across my face, I suck my bottom lip in still watching her. I let all her calls ring out. She pulls her phone away from her ear, slamming it down as she yells something in frustration.
My eyes don't move away as I click her name again, putting the phone up to my ear. Her head whips back to her phone, her hands fumbling to answer.
"OWEN WHAT THE FUCK!" She screams, her voice filled with anger.
"My gumdrop finally decided to contact me." I let out a small laugh.
"Is she actually there?" Her voice is cracking a bit as if she's about to cry. If she honestly believes I would actually do such a thing to her, she has a lesson to learn.
"No, little flame. I just wanted to hear your voice is that such a crime." I speak softly.
"That's nothing to fucking joke about prick." She states. I see her relax a bit through the monitors.
"Fine, but listen Bray left for Manhattan." I state clearly.
"And if we need him what then?" Her question is valid but, she doesn't need to worry about that. Frankly it shouldn't be any of her concern.
"Then I call him."
"Yeah, and what if he doesn't pick up dumbass." Her name calling is becoming a thing I'm starting to enjoy.
"Then he doesn't pick up." I sternly state.
"Whatever. Did you get any leads at least? I understand they changed her appearance but, that wouldn't affect anything right?" She put me on speaker, she turns to her keyboard starting to tap away.
"I wouldn't believe so. Her parents didn't show up when Bray was getting info on her so, did she not live with them?" My question seemed to surprise her a bit as she stops typing completely.
"But she did live with her parents. Although I only know their first names. Her father Helmer and her mother Evelyn. When my mom couldn't be there for me they were. They were a bit on the older side but, they always called Ashley the miracle baby." After finishing her explanation, she continued to type.
"Did she or has she ever went by a different name?" I question, turning to a different monitor, I start typing the information to send to Bray. Knowing he'll help when he can.
"I never heard anyone call her anything beside Ashley." She informs. Typing out the info I send it to Bray. Turning back to her on the screen.
"One more question little flame. Whats your favorite foods?" I want to cook her a meal next time she's over because it seems she's only eating frozen dinners and I won't let that stand. Even if it means sending her packaged home cooked meals every single day.
"I don't see how that matters." Her voice trails off, the silence being filled with the sound of constant typing.
"Just answer." I demand.
"Oh my god fine, I really like tortellini and wagyu with a side of mac and cheese, there happy? I've only had it a few times when eating with Ashley since she had expensive tastes." She lets out a small giggle.
"Very happy." I answer her rhetorical question before my mind goes to what she said "wait, did Ashley move to Denver?" I ask.
"Actually yes, she moved to Denver from New York when she was only around 13 I believe." I type what she said out sending it to Bray.
"That should help a lot little flame"I say, a smug look covering my face "also I'll be coming to pick you up later on tomorrow." I announced.
"You sure that's a good idea?" Her voice sounding like she's worried.
"Doesn't matter if it's a good idea or not I will be there later tomorrow." I state, my voice raising a bit towards the end.
"Fine, boss, see ya tomorrow then." Watching her grab her phone, aggressively ending the call. I would prefer if she called me sir but, boss will work if she likes. Placing my phone down, I lift my now cold coffee up to my lips taking a long sip. She is and will always be the only woman I'll let my coffee go cold for.
All the information that Serena gave still fresh on my mind. I can't help but to connect the dots. Bray is heading to Manhattan, which must have been where Ashley moved from. I could ask him to look around while he's there. I'll have to speak with him soon.
For now, time to get all the ingredients to surprise my lady.
