The Light

Only information he would give was the area, Boston, New York City. Tough before we travel. My baby needs to heal. Not only from her wounds but, mentally as well. She's always been a badass. I don't think she was ready for that and yet, she did it well. I'll speak to Bray soon to ask if David has any businesses up in that region. I have men in the area that will take care of Mitch's body. After the questioning, I slit his throat. Good way to die I would say. I sat there a good three minutes listening to him struggle to breath, while choking on his own blood. I might be considered a bad man. I like to think of myself as a little helper of the police. Yes, taking another humans life is illegal and a sin. If that's correct, why is it so fun? So exhilarating? Bad people deserve bad endings.

"Owen?" Hearing her quiet voice, I know she's not doing well. I sit next to her on the couch, letting her lay her head against my chest. I comb my fingers through her hair, while I wait for what she's about to say.

"I- split his leg open." Her words are soft and detached.

"Yes, baby, you did." I respond softly.

"Why should I keep going? To find a girl that walked out on me. My b-best fr-" Her words turn to sobs as her head falls to my lap.

"You say the demand and I'll follow. This woman was very important to you at one point. Even after everything you know now. Throwing those memories away would be pointless. You hold on to those, remember her as she was. Not who she is now. Again, the choice to keep going is yours." I hear her sobs continue for a moment, followed by some deep breaths.

"I will. Only because if not we killed a man for no reason."

"Okay Little Flame, Know this though, that man still deserved death. I would have killed him even if the only reason was that he hurt you. Remorse isn't something that comes easy for me. Yet, you have all of it."

"Don't be like that. Bray deserves some too." Hearing a small laugh escape her, after her statement. Fills the void I never knew I had.

"Of course Bray does. He's my only friend. Well, other than you."

"Did you just call me a friend?" She questions, as she turns to her back, looking up at me.

"We were never officially dating so, yes." I inform.

"Why don't you ask then." She smiles up at me, a soft red glow rising on her cheeks.

"You want me to ask you out while, a dead man lays limp in your room and while we're both covered in his blood? Let's not forget your bandages." I state clearly.

"Yes. I do sir, is that an problem?"

"Is it a stretch if I asked for marriage instead?" I squint at her, she only squints back "Ugh, fine. Serena would you give me the honor of being my girlfriend?" I ask, while running my fingers through her hair once again.

"Yes but, let me add that it is funny as fuck to hear you ask that." She burst out laughing but, is interrupted by me leaning down and pressing my lips against hers.

Waking up a few hours later and looking down to see my future wife still sleeping. Slowly lifting her and placing her back down, being careful of her arms. I have to inform Bray and she needs her rest so, I head to the kitchen. Far enough where she won't be bothered and she's in my line of sight. I would have put her in the bedroom with the body and mess now being gone but, I'm more comfortable with her being near me. Last time I left I was only gone for three minutes before she was being threatened with a knife to her throat.

"Hey Bray, I need you to see if David had any time of businesses of any kind in Boston, New York City. That was all the info Mitch gave." I inform.

"Let me check it might take a second, stay on the line." Putting it on speaker, I lay it down on the counter, as I wash the blood off my arms and face in the sink.

"This is locked up tight. Shit, Owen it might take awhile. I'll call you back." The waiting game it is then. With Serena still asleep I order some food, along with something to drink. I'd kill for a coffee right about now.

Time passes as the doorbell rings. Watching Serena stir a bit as I grab my pistol and walk up to the door and open it. Revealing a younger girl, my guess is around 23 or younger, standing there holding two pizza boxes.

"Sir, I forgot your coffee. I hurried as fast as I could. It should still be hot." I grab the pizzas, waiting for her to return. We part ways after she hands me both coffees. Closing the door, I see Serena sitting up, rubbing her eyes.

"Pizza or coffee? Ps. I recommend the coffee before it goes cold." I walk, to the kitchen placing everything down on the counter.

"I want pizza and the coffee." I hear her voice grow a bit louder as she comes up behind me. Opening the pizzas and heading her a plate, I move out of her way so she could grab what she likes.

"Bray should call back soon, he said he was having a little trouble getting the information." I fill her in on what happened when she was out.

"Awesome. Although, all I care about is this pizza." She shrugs, walking back over to the couch.

"After we eat, we're showering and I'm cleaning up your wounds." I state, grabbing my food and coffee before, sitting down next to her.

"That's all good with me and this time the clothes are already in the house." She mentions before taking a long sip of her drink.
