Lana woke up the next morning feeling nervous for a game for the first time in her life. She was going to prove to Tashi that she was better and what ever mind games she had been trying to play recently were not going to affect her. Tashi's bed was already empty so Lana quickly slipped out of bed and got ready for the day.
This is what Lana is wearing :)
After she finished changing, Lana grabbed her tennis bag and headed towards the courts to warm up. She ran through the usual drills for a while before taking a break to sip on some water. As Lana sat on the bench, a familiar head of blonde hair poked around the side of the stands.
"Art? What are you doing here?" shouted Lana as she squinted against the sunlight.
"Thought you could use a warm up partner, what do you say?" responded Art as he started walking over to where Lana was sitting.
"Are you sure? I don't want to bother you or anything," said Lana shifting over on the bench so Art could sit down.
"Am I sure? It's like getting a free tennis lesson," laughed Art as he pulled out his racket.
The two ended up rallying together for a while, laughing and teasing each other throughout. Lana hadn't enjoyed playing tennis so much in a long time since Tashi always took practices and warm ups so seriously. She didn't want to leave but it was getting close to her game time and she needed to start leading over to the court.
"That was fun, we should do this again sometime," said Art as they packed up their stuff.
"I'd love to! I haven't had so much fun playing someone else for a while," smiled Lana as she threw her bag over her shoulders.
"I'm flattered but don't boost my ego too much," laughed Art as he walked next to her.
"Alright, this is me. I'll see you later?" asked Lana.
"Ofcourse, I'm going to go change and drop off my stuff. You'll do great Lana," smiled Art softly tucking a stray hair behind Lana's ear. The small gesture made Lana blush hard as she waved goodbye to him.
Walking onto the court, Lana saw that Tashi was already there and stretching. Putting in her earbuds, Lana blasted Fleetwood Mac as she began prepping for the game.
The stands were jam packed with people excited to watch the showdown between the two best teens in the country . The umpire called the two girls over to shake hand, signaling the start of the game.
"Good luck," said Lana, wincing slightly at Tashi's harsh grip.
"You know I don't need it," retorted Tashi, turning on her heel.
Oh it was so on.
Lana had won the first set but Tashi didn't make it easy. She was playing even harder than usual if that was even possible for Tashi. Lana took large gulps of water as she waited for the break to be over. She met Art's eyes in the crowd and he gave her a wave and thumbs up. Lana looked over at Tashi's side and immediately regretted it as the tan skinned girl was already giving her a death stare. The second set started and each point was fought over between the girls. Art and Patrick held onto each other as their eyes followed the ball from side to side, Art's eyes staying on Lana's side a little longer each time. It was a two point game and Tashi's serve. The crowd held their breath as Tashi hit the ball over the net with a loud scream and Lana returned it grunting. If Lana won this rally she would win the tournament and she was determined to humble Tashi. She raised her racket up making it look like she was going to smash the ball but put it short instead, making Tashi run to the front but she wasn't quick enough and just like that Lana was the champion. Tashi knelt on the floor, smashing her racket on the floor as Lana fell to her knees in shock. The crowd went wild with cheering and screaming as the two girls got up and shook each other hands. Lana turned to the crowd and waved as she held her trophy over her head seeing a hollering Art which made her smile. Once all the pictures and press were over with, Lana ran towards a waiting Art and Patrick, pulling them into a hug.
"See, I knew you could do it Lana. That game was fucking crazy! You're the Junior US Open champion!" grinned Art as he picked her up and spun her around.
Patrick congratulated her as well before Tashi came over to join them.
"You played really well today Lana, you deserved the win," said Tashi but Lana could tell she was fuming on the inside.
"You too Tashi, you always make it a great game," replied Lana softly.
Tashi simply nodded and dragged Patrick away leaving Art and Lana alone.
"I can't believe we'll get to play together in the fall when school starts. Hopefully you can still make time for me Ms. US Open champion," teased Art.
"Hmmm I better check my schedule and see if I can fit you in Mr. Runner Up," joked Lana as Art playfully rolled his eyes.
"Alright settle down there. I can't believe this tournament is over already, I don't feel like going home just yet," huffed Art.
"Me too, it's been too much fun," said Lana sadly.
"Promise we'll hang out again before the summer ends?" asked Art, looking down at Lana with puppy dog eyes.
Lana might as well have melted on the spot.
"Pinky promise," grinned Lana sticking out her finger.
