Hopelessly Devoted To You

Chapter 9

New York, May 24, 2024.

My long-awaited vacation had finally arrived. I was very happy to be able to be with my family, but at the same time nervous about the conversation I will have with Scarlett.

We spoke yesterday and agreed to meet this afternoon to talk.

Leaving London was a bit difficult, especially because the girls were a little sad that I would spend my entire vacation in New York.

The good thing is that we reached an agreement and I promised them that I would leave a week before we all returned so we could take a little trip.

The girls really want to take Lili to Disney in Paris. Even if she won't remember anything.

Chalie and I decided to accompany our brother to a music store, since he needed some new cymbals for his drums.

"Wow, it's beautiful" I said looking at the Epiphone Les Paul modern electric guitar faded pelham blue "Can I try it?" I asked a salesman and he agreed.

The guy kindly helped me plug it into an amplifier while I took a seat.

I began to play whatever came to mind until at one point my fingers began to play a song already known to me.

"Guess mine is not the first heartbroken" I began to hum softly "My eyes are not the first to cry. I'm not the first to know there's just not getting over you"

I stopped abruptly and handed the guitar back to the guy.

"Thank you" I said kindly.

I looked at Charlie and he gave me a small smile.

When we left the store we went to a small cafe a couple of blocks away.

"So..." Charlie started to say and I looked at him intently "How do you feel about talking to Scarlett?"

"Nervous" I answered sipping my coffee "Sometimes I think I'm not getting anything out of talking to her if she's not going to believe me anyway"

"Oh, come on" Blake said "If Scarlett doesn't believe you, you should show her the drug test they did to you"

"She'll say that's an excuse" I answered looking at my cup of coffee.

"If she doesn't believe you, it's her loss" Charlie said, placing his hand on mine.

"Fuck Scarlett" Blake said making me laugh.

"If she doesn't believe me, it's done. I'm not going through the same shit again" I said looking at my two brothers.

"What time are you going to meet?" Charlie asked and then bit into his sandwich.

Scarlett POV

"In two hours" I responded to Kate's question.

"You must be anxious that you will finally have the answers you were looking for" She said as we sat for lunch at a restaurant near The Outset office .

"More than anxious, I'm nervous" I said, playing with the rings on my fingers "I don't know what to expect"

"Do you think she will give you the same excuses she did six years ago?" Kate asked as she read the menu.

"I hope not" I said, laughing "I hope this time she's honest with me"

While we were waiting for our food, I started to feel something strange inside me.

Like some shit was going to happen.

"Hey, relax" Kate said, placing her hand on mine "You're making me nervous"

"I'm sorry, I just have a bad feeling" I said, giving her a shy smile.

"Did you say something to Colin?" She asked worriedly and I shook my head.

"No, he would go crazy if he found out that I was with my ex-girlfriend" I answered with a sigh. "They tolerated each other, they were cordial with each other, but they didn't consider themselves friends. Andrea always told me that Colin was strange"

"And she's fucking right" Kate said, laughing "He's very, what's the word?" She said, thinking, "Overprotective of you, you practically have to ask him for permission to talk to someone. It's a miracle he's not calling you to find out what you're up to"

"Believe me, he did it before we left the office" I said, frowning as I processed what Kate was telling me.

"Scarlett, I love you too much" She began to say and I nodded "But don't you find that your relationship is somewhat toxic?"

"No, I don't feel that way" I answered, tilting my head.

"So it's completely normal for you that you practically have to ask permission to go out with your friends?" Kate asked, staring at me.

"Colin only cares about me" I answered quickly "I don't see anything strange about that"

"That's not healthy. Thank you" Kate said as she thanked the waiter who brought her food.

"Kate, there's a reason I married him" I answered softly "If I believed Colin was what you say, I wouldn't be with him"

"You're blind, woman" She said, laughing as she shook her head.

While we were having lunch, I still had that feeling that something was going to happen.

"How have you taken the fact that Andrea is now a mother?" Kate asked me as we ate our dessert.

"At first it was shocking" I answered laughing"I'm going to be honest with you. I felt very angry. Because part of me wishes I had experienced that with her"

"Would you have liked to have had a baby with her?" Kate asked confused and I nodded "Wow, this is very unexpected"

"I always believed that Andrea was my other half, that we would always be together and that we would have a family" I continued saying "But everything went to shit. In the blink of an eye our relationship went to shit. But after processing everything about the fact that she is also a mother, it makes me feel very happy"

"And what was this change due to?" She asked curiously.

"I don't know" I answered with a shrug "Maybe it's the fact that I knew Andrea wanted to be a mother and seeing her fulfill that dream of hers makes me happy"

"I'm glad you changed your mind" Kate said, giving me a smile.

As we walked back to our office a person approached me quickly which made me take a step back.

"Excuse me, Ms. Johansson?" A blonde woman almost my height asked "I would like to know if we could talk?"

"I'm sorry, but I don't give interviews" I answered politely.

"It's not an interview" The woman said, insisting "I just need to talk to you"

"Hey, she said no" Kate said in my same tone.

"Six years ago you received a video" The woman said "My name is Nicole Wilms"

"I'm sorry, but I'm late for something" I replied, giving her my best fake smile as I tried to enter the building.

"I'm the one who slept with your ex-girlfriend" She said making me freeze in place completely.
