Chapter 10

New York, May 24, 2024.

Scarlett POV

"What the fuck did you just say?" I asked, frowning as I turned to her.

"What you heard" Nicole said in an embarrassed tone "I need to talk to you"

"How the hell dare you ask me to talk to you?" I asked again, feeling my blood boil "I don't want to see you here"

"You'll be interested in what I have to say" She said quickly.

"I don't give a shit what you have to say" I replied annoyed "I'm not going to waste my time with someone like you"

I turned to walk towards the elevator, but she grabbed my arm causing me to abruptly let go of her grip.

"It's about your husband" Nicole said, staring at me "This is all because of your husband"

"Hey, I don't think it's a good idea to talk about this here in front of everyone" I heard Kate say quickly.

"Will you listen to me now?" The woman asked again "I need to explain everything to you"

"Did Andrea send you?" I asked her annoyed.

"No, she didn't" I answer nervously "No one knows I'm here"

"Let's go" I said, feeling my eyes fill with tears "If I'm not convinced by what you're going to tell me, I'll call security"

I asked Kate not to leave me alone when we got to the conference room.

I sat at the head of the table and Kate sat next to me.

"Shit" I said when I saw the time on my phone screen "I have to make a quick call"

"Please don't tell your husband that I'm here" The woman said nervously, which made me feel sorry for her.

"I won't" I answered leaving the room to make the call.

I dialed the number and after three rings she answered.

*Phone Call*

"Hello, Scarlett" Andrea answered on the other side of the line "I'm about to get to the place"

"That's why I'm calling" I said, passing my hand around my neck "I'm going to have to cancel"

"Damn it, Scarlett" She replied in an annoyed tone "You would have told me ahead of time that you were going to back out"

"It's not that" I said, letting out a sigh "Something came up and I won't be able to get there"

"Yeah, whatever" She said, quickly hanging up the call.

*End Phone Call*

"Fuck" I said biting my lower lip.

I entered the room again and pointed my index finger at Nicole.

"I hope what you have to tell me is true" I said to her annoyed as I returned to my place next to Kate.

"All good?" My friend asked and I shook my head.

"Andrea is upset" I answered in a tone that only she could hear.

I looked again at the woman who was moving nervously in her seat.

"I'm listening to you" I said in a dry tone.

*Flashback*
