Taylor groaned as she got up from bed, she knew getting up early was normal when living not only in the middle of the woods, but on a farm.
It wasn't a big farm, just some horses, goats, chickens, and home-grown veggies. Though, Taylor had begged her dad to buy some sunflower and moonflower seeds to plant. She was lucky to grow both the beautiful flowers.
"Sis!" Danny, Taylor's little brother, rushed in the room with their border collie, Loki. "Can I watch Lego Monkie Kid when we're done our chores? Please."
The red- and black-haired woman smiled at her little brother and sighed. "Alright, alright, we can. But try not to jump around like Mk does when he's fighting."
The two siblings went downstairs, and Taylor made some breakfast before they got started on the chores. The older sister let their horses into the corral and let the goats out so they could graze.
Danny got to work on collecting eggs and feeding the hens, with Loki keeping a lookout.
The two then tended to the garden, Taylor even checked the flowers she planted, and they were growing strong. Though she never knew why she had such an affinity for Sun and Moon flowers, but never questioned it.
Since Danny had smaller chores than Taylor, he went inside first as the woman got started mucking out the barn and making sure the barn cat, Odin, was doing alright.
"Hey, Odin, you lazy furball." Taylor gave the old cat some food and water after she finished with the stalls. "You know you could be chasing the mice in here."
Odin only gave a defiant, raspy meow.
The woman then got the goats and horses into the barn when she saw dark clouds circling close. She then went into the house and made some sandwiches for her and her brother. "Storms coming, Danny. Be ready."
"I'm not scared. Mom says angels are just having a bowling match when there's thunder and lightning." Danny took a bite of his sandwich as Monkie Kid was playing on the tv.
Taylor silently chuckled as they continued to watch the show, she had to say, it was very well animated. And the story wasn't that bad either. But thunder made Loki hide under the coffee table.
Danny got down to the dog's level and spoke softly to the canine. "It's okay, Loki. That's not Thor with his hammer."
The sky got darker as the day went on, and soon it was time for the siblings to go to bed. Taylor tucked Danny in as the boy hugged his stuffed dragon close to him. "You think I could meet Mk and Mei and Monkey King?"
"I don't know. Maybe? But I doubt you would be able to meet them without sleep." The woman smiled as Loki came in and laid down on the rug. "Goodnight, Danny."
"Night, Sis."
Taylor left the room, trusting her dog would watch over her brother as he slept. She sighed as she entered her room, sitting down to meditate a bit as she had some peach scented candles lit. But as she was meditating, she was hit with a vision, though it was too blurry, and she only heard one thing.
"Lotus!"
Her eyes shot open, and she snuffed out the candles before checking the time. It was around ten, and she hated staying up too late when she had to get early. "Dang it. I gotta stop meditating before bed."
But before she could even get in bed a loud bang was heard in the woods. It didn't sound like thunder and didn't have the white flash lightning did. Taylor put her hair into a bun, grabbed a hoodie, and strapped a quiver of arrows and a bow to her back.
She rushed outside and into the rain while putting her hood up. Taylor opened the barn and walked over to the horses, stopping a black and white Shire. "We have something to investigate, Goliath."
Taylor got a saddle and reins on the large horse and got on, before taking off on the stallion. The woods a night alone was dangerous, but when it's raining at night, pray that you be okay.
Yelling over the rain and thunder made Taylor maneuver her horse in the direction of the shouts. As the horse ran closer, the shouting was from multiple people, and there was this other sound.
Growling, the growling of multiple creatures.
Goliath jumped over the bushes in their way and Taylor shot an arrow at the growling creatures. The horse landed, reared, and gave a loud neigh at the coyotes as the wild animals backed away.
Taylor took off her hood as lightning flashed behind her and her horse, the shadows making her more intimidating as a burn scar and blind looking eye were shown. "Leave, now. This is not your turf, and you're not welcome."
One of the coyotes jumped at the girl and she shot another arrow, hitting the canid in the throat, making it drop to the ground. Dead. "I won't ask again. Leave!"
Another flash of lightning highlighted Taylor's form as Goliath reared again, and once he stomped his hooves down the coyotes ran off with their tails between their legs. The woman then got off her horse and knelt to the dead coyote.
The figures behind her watched as she took out the arrow and bowed her head, saying a quiet prayer. She then walked over to a tree and pulled out the arrow she shot earlier.
"Miss, you did good, could you-?" The person behind her was cut off when Taylor struck him in the face with her bow. "What?! Why did-?!"
The person was a teenager with a red floating ribbon and wheels on his shoes, not like roller skate though. He had a spear, but that didn't stop Taylor from getting angry.
"That coyote didn't deserve to die!" Taylor stalked towards him with her sharp teeth bared at him, and her crimson and blind eyes narrowed. "Why would killing it be a good thing!?"
"It was about to attack!" He tried to make another excuse, but it didn't work.
"It was trying to protect its pack, you bastard! It didn't deserve to die!" Taylor was really angry as her horse came over and nudged her back, she calmed down a little and took a breath. "It didn't deserve to die; it was scared, hungry, and trying to defend itself. What I did was take a life unnecessarily, which is never right."
One of the other people, a boy with a red headband and yellow jacket came up to Taylor. She turned her attention to him as he came up to her, as he looked down in shame. But what he said next, made Taylor soften her serious look.
"I'm sorry you had to kill the coyote. You're right, it was probably scared and hungry, and didn't deserve to die."
Taylor sighed and looked to the others with him. Two monkeys, one pitch black the other a golden ginger. A girl with black hair with green streaks, she kinda reminded the woman of a dragon. A pig man helping a man with glasses up, and a big, blue guy with an orange mohawk and beard. Last but not least a guy with a ponytail and glasses.
"You don't need to apologize, him on the other hand.-" She pointed to the teen on the ground with an arrow. "Needs to learn a few things about the woods."
The girl smiled as the rain seemed to have cleared up and the clouds rolled away. "I know we don't really know each other, and you yelled at Nezha, but is there anywhere we can go?"
Taylor nodded and grabbed Goliath's reins, leading the horse as she walked. "Follow."
They listened, following the woman as the woods were illuminated by the now visible moon. The ruby and onyx haired woman took her locks out of the bun, shaking her hair back to its normal state.
"So, what's your name?" The one to ask was the man with glasses, he was leaning on the pig man and was slightly limping.
Taylor stopped as she noticed this. "Is your leg injured?"
"Uh, I don't know what-." She cut him off as she let go of her horse and stepped over to him. "Get on Goliath, I'm not having you walk with an injured leg."
He listened and the pig man helped him onto the horse, a little intimidated by Goliath's large size. But despite having the name of a biblical villain, the horse was a gentle giant who wouldn't hurt a fly.
"Let's keep going, the woods at night can be dangerous."
