Chapter 15: Electric

I see him. I mean I really SEE him. He's shirtless and my eyes betray me straying to admire him. I see his scars and his arm, I see the faintest of tension wrinkles on his forehead. I see his furrowed brows and firm expression,

"Just came here to stare and gawk bullets?"

He uses my nickname but he doesn't seem to be in a jokey mood. I clear my throat and shake my head.

"I wanted to apologise and talk to you." I say the rehearsed line and he doesn't move for a few beats, for a second I'm scared he could shut the door in my face and tell me to go away but, thankfully, he seems to give in and opens the door letting me inside. He shuts the door behind me and I'm already fidgeting with my hands. He turns around and leans against the
door.

I walk into the middle of his room, the soft light of the sunset bleeds into the space casting everything in a soft glow especially his distractingly chiselled jawline.

I take a deep breath and say it all, albeit not so gracefully.

"I'm so sorry that I keep acting like a flighty weirdo. I was feeling really guilty for developing feelings for you given that I kissed your friend like less than a week ago-"

I see his eyes widen slightly and look of slight shock. I cringe while he smiles in a way I don't understand, shit he didn't know about that but I barrel ahead,

"-but I realised that fuck it, I really really do have feelings for you and I want to see where it went and if you also...felt the same...?" I say questioning,

He pushes off the door and I'm so scared I think my chest is going to explode. He takes two strides to bridge the gap between us and he takes my face in his hands and kisses me. It's full of passion and I'm filled with relief and more butterflies than I thought possible when I put my hands on his chest, feeling the firm muscle under my hands continuing to kiss him firmly.

I pull back gently and he follows me for a second like he doesn't want to let me go. He lowers his hands to my shoulders and I look up at him and he looks like he's about to say something but I beat him too it,

"I'll take that as a yes." I say with a smirk,

And I see a smile break out on that beautiful face. I can't describe the feeling it gives me to make him laugh, like his joy is the only thing I could ever need.

"Definitely." He says wrapping his arm around my waist pulling me into him.

I put a hand on his jawline and kiss him, this time stronger, confidently. My heart skipping a beat when we part again and he presses his head against mine.

And so we're standing in the light of the sunset content just being in each other's company. The room filled with understanding and vulnerability.

"So wait hang on, you kissed Steve."

I cringe worried about what he'll think.

"Yeah sorta." I study his face and see a flick of envy cross his features.

Guess Nat was right after all.

I tilt my head to the side, "Why you jealous?"

He laughs and looks caught of guard, "Maybe."

"I bet he'd be jealous too. Shame he's not here..." I say not-so-subtly testing the waters,

He looks at me before saying, "Well he'll be back soon." And I smile knowing he understood,

"We should head down for dinner." I say,

He picks me up and I yelp in surprise, wrapping my legs around his hips as he carries me over too his bed.

"In a minute bullets."

He sits down and places me down in his lap. His hands are on my hips while mine are on his collarbone. My hearts skipping beats left and right now.

I kiss him again. I've been wanting to do this for so long and I kiss him hard, which he seems surprised by but matches it and kisses me right back. I test the waters and part my mouth.

Eventually, we pull away panting and I chuckle, to which Bucky looks at me with a smile that's asking me what?

"I've wanted to do that for so long."

He laughs softly and tells me,

"Me too Cayde, me too, but then you ran away so you know..."

I smile and punch his shoulder,

"Ohhh I see how it is, we're joking about this now? Even after I came to give you a heartfelt apology?"

He nods sincerely with a serious face,

"Absolutely." and then laughs again.

I look around and realise it's almost dark already, I glance out the window before saying,

"Just a minute huh?"

"Well maybe I got carried away, come on let's go grab some food."

I unfortunately get off his lap and stand up and Buck puts a shirt on before I walk to the door but before I can open it he takes my hand and pulls me back into him to kiss me.

I smile, full of butterflies when I open the door and we walk down to grab some dinner together.

After sitting down and eating dinner at the kitchen island together chatting and laughing alone, I realise I haven't heard from Cassini since breakfast. I'm sat down and Bucky's putting our plates in the dishwasher when I talk to Caz,

Hey Caz you doing okay? I haven't seen you all day?

He suddenly materialises next to me,

Im all good Cayde you don't have to worry I spent the whole day with Tony and Bruce and it was amazing we're working on trying to figure out how the Vex got here and it's absolutely FASCINATING. I'll probably be working on it all night if that's okay?

I smile, so happy to see Cassini so excited. He's a real nerd to be honest.

Of course it's okay we can catch up tomorrow I'm so glad you're having fun.

Yeah I can't wait to hear about your day and whatever THIS is.

He says looking between me and a Bucky who's leaning against the kitchen counter clearly confused about why me and Cassini are just staring at each other awkwardly.

Don't worry I'll catch you all up tomorrow.

I say with a smile, we say goodnight and he disappears off to go tinker in his nerd lab and I turn back to Bucky.

"Sorry about that I just hadn't seen him today and was kind of worried but he's okay, he's gonna be with Stark and Banner all night."

"Ah okay no that's fine, glad he's okay."

We walk back upstairs and just as I stop at my door he asks me,

"Hey if you're alone tonight, would you like to sleep in my room?" He asks looking almost nervous,

"I would love to Bucky." I say with a smile following him to his room.
