Jaime held her pistol in front of her, Carl closely following next to her.
"Watch out, for people. Infected, anything."
"It stinks like bleach in here." Jaime noted.
"Watch those shutters behind us."
Jaime froze as the sound of a gun cocking echoed, "Anybody infected?"
There was a thin, tall man standing in a dark corner with an automatic weapon.
"Nobody's infected here."
"Why are you here, what do you want?"
"A chance."
"That's asking an awful lot these days."
"I know. We're good people.""You all submit to a blood test, that's the price of admission."
"We can do that," Rick nodded.
He put his gun down, pointing to the doors behind them. "You got stuff to bring in, you do it now. Once those doors close they stay closed."
Rick, Shane, Glenn, Dale and Carol ran back out to the caravan, bringing almost everything inside with them as they pulled the doors closed behind them.
"Vi, seal the main entrance. Kill the power up here."
The CDC guy, chosen to be called CDC guy by Jaime pressed a button on a security panel, speaking to it as if it were a real person, and shockingly enough it obliged."Rick Grimes." Rick held his hand out to CDC guy, as he was given a disgusted look, "Dr. Edwin Jenner."
The group crammed into a small elevator.
Jaime shifted uncomfortably as she felt Shane's breath on her neck.
Daryl cleared his throat, "Doctors always go around packing heat like that?" "There were plenty left lying around. I familiarized myself. But you look harmless enough." He spoke, observing everybody in the elevator. "Except you," he looked at Carl as he smiled, "I'll have to keep my eye on you.""This one too," Shane spoke, pushing Jaime's shoulder, "Watch out for this one." "Fuck off." Jaime whispered.
The elevator beeped as Jenner stepped out, leading them down a long, brick white, windowless hallway.
"Are we underground?" Carol spoke, her voice wavering.
"Are you claustrophobic?"
"A little."
"Try not to think about it."
"Vi, bring up the lights in the big room."
Jenners spoke to that Vi person again, as the lights flicked on to reveal a large room of security panels and monitors. "Welcome to Zone 5.""Where is everybody? The other doctors, the staff?"
"I'm it. It's just me here.""What about the person you were speaking with? Vi?" Jaime coughed, looking around.
Jenners chuckled, "Vi, say hello to our guests. Tell them... welcome."
An automated voice echoed over loudspeakers as it repeated back, "Hello guests. Welcome."
"I'm all that's left." He sighed, watching as everybody exchanged concerned and upset looks, "I'm sorry."
He took each person individually for blood tests, drawing just enough blood to test it for wildfire.
Jaime sat down on a small stool next to Jenners, quietly waiting for him to sanitize the crook of her elbow before tying it off with a tourniquet and drawing blood. She couldn't help but laugh when her mom squealed and squirmed getting hers drawn, despite the number of tattoos she had on her legs and back.
"What's the point? If we were infected we'd be running a fever." Andrea sighed, getting her blood drawn last.
"I've already broken every rule in the book letting you in here. Let me just at least be thorough. All done."
Andrea nodded, standing up as she stumbled a little bit and Jacqui grabbed her arm. "You okay?" Jenners asked.
"She hasn't eaten in days. None of us have."
