There was no sign of Sophia anywhere around, yet Rick didn't give up, calling out her name around the property. Jaime took the opportunity to sit on one of the pews, pulling her boot off as she took the bandages off and threw them away. Carl sat next to her, seemingly bored out of his mind as he kicked his foot into the pew in front of them. "Jaime, hand me my cigarettes." Topanga sighed, sitting down next to her as Carl looked at her.

She had grey curly hair that was tied back in a bun and yellowed teeth that looked nothing like Jaime's. Jaime had sparkling white teeth and brown wavy hair that was pulled back in a ponytail. Topanga had an ugly snaggle tooth that Carl took note of too.

"Oh, shit." Jaime muttered, dumping her satchel out onto the pew as she looked for something. "My cigarettes are right there, the hell you looking for?" "Nothing, nothing. Here." Jaime handed her the pack as she put her belongings back in her bag, offering Carl water from her canteen as he took a few sips.

The bells rang again as the group ran outside towards their sound, and Jaime followed. They were coming from an old speaker hooked up to the side of the church on a timer. There were no bells, it was just a recording someone had paired up.

"It's a timer." Glenn sighed, switching it off.
"I'm gonna go back in for a bit." Carols voice was full of pain and sorrow, longing for her daughter but quickly losing hope.

Jaime walked back inside the church, Carl right behind her as she sat down on one of the pews closest to the door. "I lost my gun." She whispered as Carl sat down. "What?" "My handgun. It was in my bag this morning before we left and now it's gone." "My dad and Shane collected them all." "No, they forgot mine. They did that late last night and when I woke up I still had it, someone else took it from me." "We'll find it, maybe we just ask who's seen it." "That'll never work. Shane will have my ass for not turning it in."

"Someone could get hurt." "I know that, Carl. But we'll never get anywhere by just asking around. Help me check peoples bags somehow."

Jaime stood up, as Carl nodded and wandered towards his mom and Carol, who were in the front of the church praying.

She walked outside, seeing Shane and Rick talking as she cleared her throat. "Hey, have y'all-?" "We're in the middle of something right now!" Shane snapped. Rick sighed, turning towards Jaime to say something as she flipped Shane the bird, "Oh, piss off."
Jaime spat in the dirt, wandering off towards the side of the woods as Shane yelled after her. "You spit like a girl!" She turned around again, walking back up to them. "I spit like a what?"

"Guys, c'mon. No fightin'."
"You spit like a girl." Shane looked her up and down, not expecting the glob of spit to hit him in the face as she obnoxiously spat at him. "Go to hell."

She went back inside the church, grabbing Carl who was sitting on the same pew again looking defeated. "Let's go." "Where are we going?" "Hunting, out, I don't know." Jaime muttered.

"Hey, where are you taking him?" Rick yelled.

"Out! I need to lay off some steam, we're just gonna catch a few squirrels." Jaime sighed.

Rick nodded, "He stays in your sight the whole time."

"Yessir."

As they walked away, they could hear Rick ripping Shane a new one for being rude to Jaime. "Is Shane mad at you too?" "No. Don't get it confused, I'm mad at Shane. He can go-. Sorry. Guys like that just piss me off, so fucking much. Remind me of all my mom's ex boyfriends. Dont ever grow up into one of them, got it?" "I won't, I pinky promise."

"Have you had a boyfriend before?" Carl asked, kicking a rock to the side of them. "No, I was never interested. Have you had a girlfriend?" "This girl named Tabitha gave me her bracelet last year." "Awesome." "I didn't have any real friends growing up, I moved around too much and everyone saw me as the weird kid."

"I'll be your friend." Carl stopped walking, looking up at her. "Well, thank you. I really appreciate that." "I'll even give you this, so you know I mean it." He untied a brown cord bracelet from his wrist, placing it over Jaime's as he tied it for her. "Aww, that's so sweet." "Don't worry, it's not the one Tabitha gave me. I lost that one awhile ago." "Thanks for the reassurance," she laughed. "Jaime, look!" He whispered, hunching down as he motioned towards something moving in the trees. "What? I don't see anything?" She whispered, pulling her knife out of her bag. "There!"

A deer came out of the trees quietly, munching on grass as it didn't see the two of them. "How do we kill it?" "I'm afraid it's going to be hard without a gun. But watch how it moves, it's so at peace." Jaime whispered, "I wish the world was still like that."

Carl took a few quiet steps forward, fascinated by the deer and its nature. "Don't startle it." She whispered, walking up behind him.

Almost on cue, a loud gunshot echoed as the deer ran off, both Jaime and Carl collapsing.

She landed back first, getting the wind knocked out of her as she coughed. She sat up slowly, looking for Carl.  "Oh, shit!" She crawled over to the boy, a bullet wound in his side as she screamed at the top of her lungs. "Carl, Carl! Look at me!" She screamed, pushing her hands into his side to stop the bleeding. "Carl, please." She whispered, leaning her head towards his chest. He was still breathing.

"Oh my fucking god!" Jaime screamed, looking up as her mother stepped out from behind the trees, holding Jaime's handgun, and another man stepped out from behind her, with a hunting rifle. "You fucking shot him!" "I-I, but the deer!" Topanga mumbled. "What are you doing? Go! Go get help!" Jaime screamed.
