"Please, don't leave."
(Y/n) stopped in her tracks, slowly shifting her feet to turn around. A young man, no older than his early to mid-twenties, stood just behind her. His eyes showed visible distress as he stepped closer, his blonde hair damp and unkempt, clothes tattered.
She had found him wandering atop one of the many mysteries of the kingdom, The Great Plateau. It was clear he was lost, disoriented by all that around him. The man could barely even remember his own name.
For a moment, she could only look at him in silence. She didn't know what to do or how to help. She had just tried to walk away, but couldn't bring herself to keep going. His pleading voice only made it harder.
Abandoning someone who's in such need of help? It would sit with her for the next three years.
"Link? Was it?" (Y/n) asked. Link nodded, posture lifting hearing his name come from someone other than himself.
He was strange of course, but the faint scent of damp moss and mint brought a sense of comfort to the girl. There was an air around him, something that handed one's trust over without a second thought.
Her eyes shifted from him to the sky, the glow of the sun descending toward the horizon catching her attention. Ever since the attack of Calamity Ganon 100 years prior, the monster infestation across the kingdom had become a major issue. The dark of night made it much harder to see them, and travelers were practically prone to running into an ambush.
"It's getting dark," She said, tipping her head back and motioning for him to follow, "Let's find some shelter for the night."
This was more than enough for him as he eagerly followed, a faint smile tracing his lips. It wasn't long before a small corridor in the nearest cliffside was discovered and a narrow crack was found near the back, leading to a larger, closed-off cave. The perfect shelter from whatever lurked outside.
(Y/n) swiftly set up camp while Link watched and in a matter of minutes, they had a fire going with small makeshift beds to sleep in. She sat down and waved a hand to call him over, pointing the ground across from her.
"Have a seat," She spoke, "there's a lot we need to figure out."
Link nodded once more, gently placing himself across from her. The ground was cold and damp as his hands touched it, his fingertips feeling deprived of any and all sensation. Every one of his senses had been flooded with so many sounds and textures, it was evident he was overwhelmed, circles darkening under his eyes.
(Y/n) started with a few questions, passing him some food every few minutes or so as she learned that Link was well-trained with a sword, though he himself couldn't understand why. It seemed to be the only thing he knew. When asked to show some moves, he asked if they could spar together, finding some sturdy sticks to use in the placement of actual swords. To say he was an expert would be a drastic understatement.
"You don't know how you're so good?" (Y/n) huffed, blocking a hit from him before pushing him back, "You had to have been a knight or something!" She gasped as he came back full force, pushing her to the ground.
"I would like to find out." Link said, reaching a hand out to help and apologizing for shoving her. They continued to spar, the sticks in their hands wearing out and eventually breaking. (Y/n) didn't stand much of a chance against him, shocked such force could come from someone so visibly disheveled.
