I stepped back into the shower and started washing my body clean. I couldn't resist using Luke's body wash, I wanted to smell like him for as long as possible. He knocked on the bathroom door before cracking it open.
"Can I come in?" He asked.
"Of course," I replied. I wiped my hand across the glass of the shower door to watch him come into the bathroom. He had slipped on some underwear, to my disappointment, but his chest was still exposed. My eyes traced over the muscular definition of his chest as he walked towards the vanity.
"Here's a shirt for you," he said, setting one down on the counter. He came to the shower and opened the door, sticking his head in. "Are you okay?"
I sighed. He had asked me if I was okay half a dozen times in the last hour.
"Yes," I told him. "I wish you would stop asking."
"I just want to make sure," he said. "I know you've got a lot going on." I pressed my lips together at his reference of Nick. I was surprised at how I felt no guilt for my own infidelity, but I wondered if it would come later.
"I promise I'm okay," I told Luke. I rinsed the soap from my skin, deciding to wash my hair at home to save it from the torture that was hotel shampoo. "I'd tell you if I wasn't."
"Okay," he said with a nod. He didn't look like he believed me. I sighed and turned off the water. I grabbed my towel from the hook outside the door and wrapped it around myself.
"Are you okay?" I asked him pointedly. Luke nodded.
"I'm okay," he said. "Promise." I raised my eyebrows at him and he laughed.
"I'm sure," he said. Luke stepped towards me and wrapped his arms around me, pulling me into him. He kissed the top of my head lovingly. "I missed you so much, Emily." I wrapped my arms around him and rested my head on his chest. I could hear his heart beat.
"I missed you too," I replied. Luke kissed my head again before letting me go so I could dry off. I slipped on my shorts, forgoing my underwear since they were sweaty from work all day, and then slipped on my bra and Luke's shirt. I gathered my sweaty clothes and headed out to the room when I was finished. I pulled the collar of his shirt up to my nose and inhaled his scent. I had missed his smell so much.
Luke was reclining on the bed, watching a football game recap when I emerged from the bathroom. He pressed the mute button on the tv and sat up when he saw me.
"You're leaving?" He asked me, surprise in his voice.
"I don't have any of my things," I told him. "I'd stay if I could..."
"I understand," he replied, disappointed. I half shrugged at him, feeling disappointed I had to leave too. I wanted nothing more than to stay with him forever, a decade was too long to be apart already.
"I'll see you tomorrow though," I said, trying to reassure the both of us. Luke got up from the bed and crossed the room. He grabbed me, pulling me into a tight embrace as he kissed me firmly.
"I don't want you to go," he said softly, breaking our kiss.
"Me too," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. Luke let out a heavy sigh and slowly let me out of his arms. I resisted the urge to wrap myself around him and never let go as I gathered my purse and clothes. He walked me downstairs to my car.
"Text me when you get home," he said. I nodded, not able to find the words I wanted to say. "Be safe driving. I love you."
"I love you too," I said, nervous excitement suddenly coursing through me at his words. Luke kissed me quickly before closing my car door for me. I smiled to myself as I started the car and drove home.
