"A kissy face?" Kat said on the phone. "Are you sure that's what it was?"

"It was the kissy face with the heart coming out of the lips, Kat. I know what I saw," I explained to her. She was quiet on the other line. "I don't know what to think."

I paced the apartment anxiously. Nick was at the gym and I only had twenty more minutes before he came back.

"Listen it means one of three things honestly," Kat started. "More than likely, it's an inside joke or some stupid guy thing. Less than likely, he's gay or bi and has a thing with David."

"Or the third option?" I asked.

"Or he's hiding a girl's phone number under David's name."

My stomach plummeted inside me. Would Nick do that? He had been on his phone significantly more over the past few months. And he did have a lot of calls with David in his call history.

"I don't know," I said. "Would he do that?"

"Men will do anything if it means they're getting laid," Kat replied very nonchalantly. "I'd like to think Nick respects you and your marriage to not do something like that."

"Me too," I said quietly.

"Was the contact name David 'last name' or just David?"

"Just David."

"Hmm."

I sighed and sat down on the couch having stopped pacing. Everything made sense with the reasoning that it was a woman's phone number under David's name.

"I'd check to see if there's two David's in his phone then. If there is then it's more than likely that it's a woman saved under one of them. And I'd put money on it being the one with no last name," Kat said. I groaned loudly.

"I hate this," I said. Kat sighed.

"Me too, I'm sorry," she replied. "If you need a place to stay my place is always open."

"Hopefully I won't and this is just a misunderstanding or something," I said softly. I heard Nick's footsteps up the stairs outside our apartment. "I gotta go."

I hung up the phone just before Nick opened the door.

"Hey babe," he said happily. He leaned over the back of the couch and kissed the top of my head. "I stink, I'm going to jump in the shower."

"Okay," I said quietly. Nick dashed to the bathroom and closed the door behind him. I heard the shower kick on and I got up to go to our room. I checked his duffle bag to see if he had left his phone behind and he hadn't. I slumped on the bed, anxiety eating at my stomach.

"Please be an inside joke," I groaned to myself as I pushed myself off the bed and headed to the bathroom. I knocked on the door and cracked it slightly.

"Can I come in?" I asked.

"Yeah!" Nick called back. I opened the bathroom door. Nick smiled at me from the shower. "What's up?"

"Can I borrow your phone?" I asked him. "Mine keeps freaking out and I'm rebooting it."

"Sure," he said, slightly hesitating. "What for?"

"I need to call David. It's Alexandra's birthday next week and I wanted to see if she has something I wanted to get her," I fibbed. After a moment Nick nodded and I grabbed his phone off the counter. I opened his contacts and typed in the name David in the search bar. Only one David popped up - David with no last name.

The relief that washed over me was short lived. I opened David's contact to find 2 numbers listed. I looked up at Nick who was washing his hair, his eyes closed as he rinsed the suds from his brown hair. I quickly memorized the last four digits of each phone number before I set his phone down on the counter and stepped out of the bathroom.
