He looked out the window at eleven o'clock.
She didn't come by today. She wasn't in her backyard. She wasn't hopping over the fence.
Maybe she'd gotten grounded?
Did her parents even care enough to punish her?
Dask sat at his dining room table on this Sunday afternoon, worrying silently.
"I'm just overreacting," he told himself. "She's probably just... sleeping in." He rubbed his chin, pressing his face against the window.
"Who am I kidding... Hadley never sleeps in."
His eyes went wide with concern.
"Where could she be?"
Dask had no idea what he was doing, just waiting around. He opened the fantasy book he'd been reading, trying to take his mind off of things.
She'd be back by school tomorrow. She'd never let him down before.
He didn't know what was going on, but what he did know was that he missed Hadley. A lot.
