"The crumb cakes are all prepared, Miss Larkdale," A fairy servant said, bowing her head slightly.
It was a bright springy day in the fairy world, and preparations for the Horizon Festival were in full swing.
"That's Lady Larkdale to you," Lady Larkdale replied, her nose held high in the air.
The fairy servant cowered down before her. "Yes ma'am... sorry ma'am." She said, scurrying away to help with more preparations.
Lady Larkdale made sure everything was running smoothly, making sure the cakes were iced and the dinner tables were set up properly. She nodded her head at the progress being made by their helpers and returned to check on her fellow Council members.
"Heartwinger? How are things going?" She asked.
Miss Heartwinger saluted Lady Larkdale as she sprinkled growth fertilizer onto the small flowers, watching them grow to an enormous size. "It's going well, ma'am!"
"Excellent," Larkdale said, smiling. She continued walking along the grass, examining every detail. She liked everything to be in perfect order; no one else was going to do it.
She wandered over to where Lord Brilland was observing the others, a mischievous smile on his face.
"Hello, Lady Larkdale. Production seems to be going well." Brilland complimented.
"It is, it is. And how about your portion? Do you have everything ready to follow through on our plan?" Larkdale asked, her tone becoming quiet.
"Yes ma'am. All security fireflies are in their appropriate positions for the festival. If I see anything suspicious, anything at all, I have them programmed to strike."
"I don't want anyone hurt, Brilland. We don't need to kill anyone." Larkdale scowled.
"Oh don't worry, madam. They won't harm anyone." He said, smiling with his jagged teeth.
"As long as we get answers, Brilland. That's all I'm asking for." Lady Larkdale said, a smile now spreading across her face.
"And answers you shall receive. Ellabelle's secrets will be exposed, I guarantee it." Brilland added, nodding.
"Until then, go help Toadbiller and his men. They're trying to get those ladybugs under control so we can begin decorating."
Brilland saluted her. "Yes ma'am."
Ellabelle woke from her slumber, her head aching. She wasn't sure exactly where she was. Then, she remembered; she had never left the Tree of Ancestors. She was sleeping right in the middle of the floor, with the wand, scroll, and ring still in hand. She still had no answers as to why she had these magical items, but her mind was overflowing with answers about her family history.
How could she have no memory of someone else who lived in her house?
Granted, she could hardly even remember her parents; she was quite young when she fell into the human world. But there had to be a reason why neither of them remembered that they were siblings. And what a coincidence it was that Ellabelle and Lue had met years later and became friends? How did neither of them remember and figure it out?
Now that she knew, she had to find the proper time to tell him. She couldn't just spring it on him all at once.
Her mind was spinning. She twirled the wand between her fingers and looked at the ring. It was made of gold with an emerald sticking out. It was the same color as Hadley's eyes.
Ellabelle shot up off the floor. Hadley. She was still at the house.
Ellabelle shoved the scroll under her armpit, held tightly onto the wand, and put the ring on her finger. To her surprise, the ring was a disguised teleportation device, and it took her right home. She shook her head, confused as ever. She looked over at Hadley, who was sleeping with Garivo on top of her chest, breathing steadily. She'd already gotten through the first half of the book.
