The excitement of the first day of school lingered with Beau well into the evening. After finishing her homework and having dinner with her Mom, she settled onto her bed, scrolling through Instagram. She hesitated for a moment, then typed in Adeline Sinclair's name in the search bar. Adeline's profile popped up, and Beau smiled at the familiar face in the profile picture-Adeline in her soccer uniform, a determined look on her face.

Taking a deep breath, Beau opened a direct message window and started typing.

Beau: Hey Sinclair Got a minute to talk about the scrimmage?

Beau's finger hovered over the send button for a moment before she finally pressed it. She tossed her phone onto the bed, nerves filling her chest, trying to distract herself with a book while waiting for a response. After a few minutes, her phone buzzed.

Adeline: Hey Beau. Sure, what's up?

Beau's heart did a little flip as she smiled to herself. She quickly typed back.

Beau: I was thinking we could set a date for the scrimmage. It'd be cool to get our teams together. What's your schedule like?

Adeline: I'm free after practice most days. What about you?

Beau: Same here. How about this Friday after school?

There was a brief pause before Adeline's next message arrived.

Adeline: Friday works. Can you send me the details?

Beau: For sure any chance, I get your number? It'll just be easier

Beau waited, biting her lip. She hoped asking for Adeline's number wouldn't seem too forward. Her phone buzzed again, and she let out a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding.

Adeline: Sure. It's 555-123-4567.

Beau: Got it. Thanks! I'll let you know the details tomorrow.

Adeline: Same. Should be fun. Goodnight, Beau.

Beau: Goodnight, Adeline.

Beau grinned at her phone, feeling a rush of excitement. She saved Adeline's number and sent a quick text to confirm.

Beau (Text): Hey, it's Beau. Just wanted to save your number.

A moment later, her phone buzzed with a reply.

Adeline (Text): Got it. Talk to you tomorrow.

Beau couldn't help but smile as she put her phone down. Despite Adeline's closed-off nature, their interaction felt promising. She was looking forward to the scrimmage, but even more than that, she was excited about the possibility of getting to know Adeline better.

Beau turned off her bedside lamp and settled into bed, her thoughts filled with the day's events and the anticipation of what was to come. She drifted off to sleep with a smile on her face, dreaming of basketball, soccer, and a pair of brown eyes that seemed to be hiding a world of secrets she was eager to uncover.
