TWO EXCITING NOTES AT THE END OF THE CHAPTER 🫶🫶

——

"WAGHHHHHH!!!!! I MISS (Y/N)-CHAN!!!!!!" A blonde haired girl sobbed hysterically. Her teammates glanced at her oddly, sighing in disbelief. "Koko..." Yae sighed, bringing her into a hug. Koko wiped her snot all over the blue-eyed girl's jersey. A few gags were exchanged but she paid them no mind as she continued to wail.

It had been about a week since (Y/N)'s indefinite leave of the team. The girls had all been saddened upon hearing the news. After all, they had pretty much become family over the past year. To say Kokomi Koboyaski was merely "saddened" would be an understatement. She was acting like the damn girl was dead!

Riri rolled her eyes. "Quit your sobbing! You're making a fool out of yourself!" She hissed humiliatingly. Runa glared at her, silently demanding her to stop.

Softening her gaze, Runa looked back at Kokomi's shaking form. "Kokomi, it's alright. (Y/N)-chan will be back soon enough. She just has to finish this project for her dad and then she'll be back with us!" She reassured the blonde. A small sniffle was heard, followed by a mumble. "...yeah, I guess you're right, Runa-chan..."

Runa smiled. "Awesome. Now, let's get ready for practice. We have a country to represent, after all."

——

Thousands of kilometers away, another team of women were wrapping up their practice session for the day. Idle chatter filled the locker room. However, none of it seemed to reach the ears of Jane Monroe.

She clutched her water bottle tightly, eyes drilling holes into her shoes. 'I've done everything I can... so why am I still not better than that bug-eyed freakazoid?' Her teeth grit uncomfortably in her mouth. 'It's like she doesn't fucking exist! I've searched everywhere for some sort of media piece on her technique, but there's NOTHING!' She huffed angrily and threw her stuff to the ground. The entire room paused to glance at her curiously.

She whipped her head around to yell at them. "What are you looking at? Mind your own business!" The team sweat-dropped. "Yes, captain..."

She sighed, blowing blonde strands of hair out of her face irritatingly. 'How am I supposed to surpass her if I can't figure out just how she's surpassing me!' "Jane." A gruff voice called out.

Her green eyes met her coach's brown. With a tilt of her head, she motioned the teenager to step outside. It was only then did Jane realize the rest of her team had left the locker room. She tsked. 'They couldn't even bother to wait for me, eh?' She rolled her eyes mentally.

It was uncomfortably silent in Jane's coach's office. She wasn't one to shy away from intimidating situations. However, the tension was so thick, she couldn't help but twiddle her thumbs almost anxiously.

"You've become a great asset to this team over these past years, Jane," her coach started. "So it'll be sad to see you go."

Jane's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. "You... you're releasing my contract!?" She fumed. Standing up with a piercing screech emitted from the chair, she growled lowly. "That goes against the terms we agreed upon! You realize that you won't stand a chance against me in court, right?"

It became silent, save for the heavy breathing coming from Jane.

The coach started to laugh hysterically. The blonde stumbled back in surprise. Wiping the tears that pricked the corner of her eyes, her coach smiled eerily. "Now now, Jane. Don't be so hasty," she clicked a few things on her computer mouse. "I never said I was releasing you, my dear. Rather, it's more of a sudden transfer."
