TW: lots of mentions of bad things happening to bitties
"Hey guys..." said Pixel as she walked into the break room.
"Yes?" Said Teal. "Well, have any of you noticed anything... strange?" Asked Pixel.
"What do you mean?" Asked Moon(Moonfall).
"Well, we've been getting a lot of bitties in and we only specialize in lamia bitties. From what I heard from the officers who take part in the raids, there are sometimes close to thousands of bitties recovered in these raids. Plus, we haven't just been getting more typical lamia bitties, but rare variants and versions." Said Pixel.
"Now that you mention it, it is strange." Said Sunrise.
"Yeah, lamia bitties make up around 20% of bitties, but we've been getting several rare variants." Said Code.
"Are variants and stuff really that rare?" Asked Killer.
"Most bitties are swapfell, Fellswap, swap, tale, or fell variants. Anything else is considered more uncommon. Though many variants are rarer than others." Explained Tears.
"Yeah, we even have several error and ink type bitties that are some of the rarest." Said Brush.
"What are the rarest?" Asked Cross.
"Well, typically error, ink, nightmare, dream, and fresh variant bitties are the rarest but we have several in our rescue." Said Moon.
"That is rather odd." Said Nightmare, "is there any reason why there might be several?"
"Well, there is one reason I can think of, but it's unlikely." Said Tears.
"What?" Asked Dust.
"Illegal bitty manufacturing. There are several laws about it and it's extremely hard to do, but illegal bitty manufacturing and cloning has happened." Said Tears.
"Let's hope we're not dealing with one." Said Sunrise, shuddering.
"Why? I get they're bad but you seem even more uncomfortable than normal." Said Horror.
"A lot of the regulations are about the conditions and the treatment of bitties as well as the amount allowed to be created. It's unlikely any underground operation follows any of these. The last illegal operation like that that was busted was estimated that around 62% of bitties died soon after being created and around 48% dying during transport. The ones that didn't die were often used in experiments or illegal fights." Said Sun.
"Yeah, some of the bitties were even used for drug tests." Said Moon.
"That's awful," said Cross.
Teal nodded and said, "A lot of the bitties were also used in things like illegal breeding and several were bought off the black market and ended up in bad homes."
After that, everyone ended up quieting down and going back to work, but the question lingered, was it possible they were dealing with an illegal manufacturer.
