My eyes fluttered open, my body lay still on the floor of my surroundings. I sit up swiftly, observing where I was. I was moving upward fast, confined to the small room I was in. I look around frantically, hoping to find something familiar. Crates and boxes were scattered around the room. I squinted my eyes as I moved closer to a box in front of me to my right, trying to make out what the dirt-stained container had written on it. W.C.K.D. I wondered what the letters stood for. The room continued to move up, faster now. The unpleasant screeching of metal against metal hurt my ears. My palms began to sweat, and the room kept increasing with speed. I pulled my knees up to my chest, and my fingers gripped the floor cage tightly. I looked up and saw the end of the tunnel, and braced for impact. The metal against metal stopped and silence filled the air. I could hear faint chatter from above, and the roof of the cage opened.
The light blinded me, and I raised an arm to block the glare. The voices were now distinguishable and prominent. Still squinting from the light, I could see the silhouette of a boy as he hopped down into the cage. It shook with the extra weight, and I heard a gasp. The boy turned to the group gathered around the entrance of the cage.
"It's a girl."
