I was leaning against one of the tree trunk pillars on the right side of the room. Every one of the Keepers was gathered in council hall, including me. Minho handed Newt the metal device that we found inside the Griever in the Maze. I glanced at it and remembered that it had the letters W. C. K. D. On it. I wondered what they could stand for and what its purpose was. Newt sighed and I looked down at my fingers, fiddling with them.

"We found it inside a Griever." Minho said informed.

"These are the same letters we get on our supplies." Newt said, intrigued. He looked up at me.

"Yeah, well, whoever put us here obviously made the Grievers." I said, running my fingers through my hair. "And well, this is the first real clue, the first anything you've found in over 3 years right, Minho?" I asked, turning to face him.

"Right." He replied.

"Newt," I continued. "We have to go back out there. Who knows where this might lead us."

Newt slightly tilted his head and looked at Gally. Gally frowned and rolled his eyes. "You see what she's trying to do, right?" He said to Newt. "First she breaks our rules, and then she tries to convince us to abandon them totally?" Gally shot his arms up and then let them drop at his sides. "The rules are the only thing that have held us together. Why now are we questioning that?!"

I gritted my teeth and I furrowed my brows a little. I looked over at Minho to see him expressionless, like he didn't care at all. Or like he cared to much. I don't know.

Gally looked at Minho and Zart and started talking again. "If Alby was here, you'd know he'd agree with me. This shank." He pointed at me. "This shank needs to be punished."

Newt looked at me with an expression I could not read no matter how hard I tried. He looked down at the ground, then back at me. He handed Minho back the metal cylinder. "You're right. Y/n broke the rules. One night in the pit and no food."

"Oh, come on Newt!?" Gally interrupted. "One night in the pit?! You think that's going to stop her from going into the Maze?!" He yelled.

"No!" He turned to face me again. "And we can't just have non-Runners running into the Maze whenever they feel like it." He paused. Gally looked at Newt and me with a death stare, folding his arms over his chest. "So let's just make this official." He said, once again. "Starting from tomorrow, you're a Runner. Ok?" Newt stared at me with a long look. My eyes widened as he said those words. I wanted to jump up and down and hug him tightly but I controlled myself. Gally scoffed and stormed past us.

"Gally." Frypan said, trying to calm him down.

"Nah Fry!" He spoke loudly, leaving the room.

Frypan turned around and left us, going after Gally. Minho sighed.

"Thanks, Newt." I said, a small smile on my face.

He looked at me like he was slightly mad, slightly disappointed. It was a weird face. I could feel my stomach turn from his gaze. He nodded ever so lightly and turned and walked out the door, running a hand through his hair.

Minho lead me into the forest, crunching of leaves underfoot. I finally heard some birds chirping and the light sound of the wind whooshing past me. Minho and I continued to walk for another couple minutes until we were somewhat deep into the forest. We approached a small hut in a clearing, moss growing on the sides of the building. Minho stepped inside first, me following behind. The door creaked. I looked all around the room, light shining through the cracks in the walls. In the middle of the room was a large sized table with a sheet draped over it. Covering the walls of the hut, there were scattered papers and wood carvings hung up. Some rope fell from the ceiling, now hanging down as it swayed as I bumped into it. There were crates along the floor in the back of the room, shut and locked. I looked up at Minho. He gripped the sheet on the table and ripped it off, gently placing it onto the ground behind him. On the table was what looked like a mini version of the Maze, our Glade in the center. It was highly detailed and each wall was what must have been made up of hundreds of small twigs. It baffled me that someone put so much time and effort and energy into making this little diorama. What was the point, though? I should ask. I have been to the Map Room several times before, but I have never seen it like this.

"Wha?" Was all I managed to say. "What is this?"

Minho sighed and I leaned against the table on my hands, as did he. "It's the Maze." He said. "All of it."

"What do you mean all of it? I thought you were still mapping." I said, my voice growing concerned.

"There's nothing left to map." He rubbed his eyes. "I've run every inch of it myself. Every cycle. Every pattern. If there was a way out we would have found it by now."

I looked up at him and he did the same. I furrowed my brows a little. "Why haven't you told anyone this?" I asked him.

"It was Albys call. People needed to believe there as a chance of getting out. But maybe now, we have a real chance." He said, holding up the metal device that once belonged inside the Griever. He walked over and stood next to me, handing me the cylinder.  "Take a look at this. About a year ago, we started exploring these outer sections." He said, gesturing to the mini Maze. "We found these numbers printed on the walls."
There was a rock below each section, painted with a number 1 through 8.
"See, the way it works is every night when the Maze changes, it opens up a new section." He continued. "So today section 6 was open. Tomorrow it will be 4, then 8, then 3. The pattern always stays the same."

I looked down at the device, the number 7 printed on it on a little screen an inch big, in bright red. I tried to pick away some of the grime still left on it, but nothing came from my actions. "What's so special about 7?" I asked.

"I don't know. But last night, when the Griever was there, section 7 was open. I think it must be where it comes from. Tomorrow, you and I are gonna take a closer look, 'kay?" He stated.
