chapter 24: "FAVORS"

Yes the howling sound was from our drama queen harkha's chamber.....
Both the emperor and ruqaiya came to her chamber at the same time and looked at each other and to harkha who was shivering, while hugging hamida bano....
Hamida says, " Nahi... Nahi beta.... Chup ho jao..... What happened? Will you tell me? "
Harkha fakes crying continues, " Nahi ammijaan, woh aayegi....she ll take away my son from me"
She mumbles in her embrace....
Hamida asks, " Kon beta? Agar aap humse khul kar nahi batayenge, toh mein kya kar sakungi? "
The emperor goes to her, as soon as she saw him she hugs him tightly..... " Shehensha, raksha kijiye humein aur humare santan ko" She cries....
Everyone ask her but she do not say anything other than this.....
Salima too comes there and stood beside ruqaiya.... After seeing all these....
She says, " Harkha begum, did you have any nightmare? "
Harkha looks at her direction, she sees ruqaiya too there and shivers again and hides her face behind the emperor.....
He notices this and says, " Is it a nightmare harkha? "
Harkha says, " Yes! I saw a really scary nightmare, she took my son and killed him in front of me...! "
She cries loudly....
Hamida, yashomati, and the emperor were really confused....
He asks, " Who? "
Harkha points the fingers at ruqaiya's direction..... He too looks at the scene with widening eyes....
Salima looks at ruqaiya and keeps her hand on her shoulder....
Yashomati says, " Finally, the cat is out of the basket..... Your wrong intentions had finally come out....! "
The emperor says, " Can u stop it? "
Harkha says, " Why are you stopping her shehensha? Till now whatever dreams I had proved to be true.... I fear this is also true... "
Maham interferes, " What is true, begum harkha? That begum ruqaiya is trying to kill your child! " She huffs...
The emperor says, " Nothing like that harkha, it's just a dream... You sleep now... ! "
Harkha says, " Nahi... She doesn't like the fact that i am going to give u a heir! Because she is jealous of us! "
He looks at ruqaiya's direction who was boiling in anger....
And harkha continues, " She will kill me shehensha....ask her to leave the chamber! "
Ruqaiya roars, " Will you be quiet harkha begum!? What do you think of me.... Aap ko jaisa chahiye, vese ilzaam laga sakti hain mujhpe? "
The emperor says, " Ruqaiya, nothing like that.... She is talking all these out of fear.... You please leave from here"
Hamida joins him, " Yes ruqaiya beta.... It's best for harkha if you leave from here! " And she caresses harkha's head...

Ruqaiya was dumb after hearing this... She storms out of the place in anger..... Salima follows her.....

She goes to her chamber.... All these events plays in her head... Salima starts to speak, ruqaiya interrupts, " Maaf kijiye salima begum, magar hum abhi kuch sunne ke liye tayar nahi hai.... Aap hume tanha chod dijiye... "
Salima understood and left from there....
After sometime, the emperor comes....
He says, " Ruqaiya, whatever harkha told.... I m sorry for that! "
She turns towards him, " Sorry? Sorry for what, baadshah salamat? Jab harkha begum aur uss yashomati bai ne humare upar galat ilzam laga rahe the tab aap chup tha.... Aur ab aap humse maafi maang rahein hai.... "
She laughs sarcastically.,...
Shehensha is confused, "toh main aur kya karoo... Tum hi batao! "
She looks at his eyes, " Aapko kuch karne ki zarurat nahi tha.... All i wanted to hear from you is that, you will tell harkha begum that 'ruqaiya will never think like killing someone'.... Magar aap chup tha.... Ammijaan bhi chup thi.... "
Her eyes welled up....
She continues, " Kya aap bhi meri baare mein yahi soch rakte hain? Kya aapko bhi lagta hai mein jalti hoon unse? "
He looked down and she gulped down on the scene....
She moves away from him and turns the other side.....
He says, " Ruqaiya, i-"
She speaks, " Kuch kehne ki zarurat nahi hai... Meri sawal ka jawab aapki aankhon mein saaf saaf dikh raha hain... Mat boliye"
He keeps his hand on his forehead....'what could I speak there ruqaiya? '
She says, " Aap yahan kyun hai? Aap ko aaj yahan se zyaada zarurat wahan hai...."
Hamida comes there and says, " Ruqaiya begum, aap humare liye kuch karenge? "
Ruqaiya looks at her and smiles, " Hukum kijiye ammi? "
She says, " You have to promise me in front of harkha and her family that you ll not harm her and jalal's child in any way! "

Ruqaiya's world came crashing to the floor beneath her..... All she could think was 'her life was a lie! And nothing else'
She looks at him who looks down and says, " Harkha wants this ruqaiya... Or else her and my baby's health would be in jeopardy! "

She replies, " Ammijaan, aap-aap ko bhi yahi lagta hai ki mein-"
Hamida sternly replies, " Aaj hum yahan tumhara ammi ban kar nahi, palke mughal sultanat ki mariyam makhani ban kar aaye hain... Aur yeh humara hukum hai! "
Ruqaiya realizes and replies, " Gustakhi maaf ho mariyam makhani.... But I will not agree to this... Because all these allegations are false.... Jab hum aisa hain nahi toh vada kyon karna hain"
Hamida was angry, " Kya nahi kiya, maine aapke liye? I haven't made u my daughter-in-law but a daughter... Is this how u repay the favour? "
Ruqaiya widens her eyes, " Favors? "
Hamida storms out of the place....

The emperor understands the situation is out of hand, " Ruqaiya, ammi ki matlab tha-"
She shows his hand to him....
" Abhi bhi aap mujhe juvaz pesh karna chahtein hai..... Ek bar phir aapne muh nahi khola..... Dafa ho jaye yahan se.... Mein kisiko bhi dekhna nahi chahti..... "
He keeps his hand on her shoulder but she shrugs it away.....
His anger grows and he pins her to the wall, " Ek vada toh hai? Why will you not do it? "
She replies, " Sirf ek vada ke liye... Umr bar ke rishte ko daav pe laga diya na.... Kya itna bharosa nahi kar sakte hain aap aur aapke ammijaan, mujhe? "

He leaves from there.....
