chapter 26: WEAVING OF LAYERS

Some days again passed.....ruqaiya did not come out of her chamber a lot because she knew it only escalated her mother's anger.....

Ruqaiya was bathing in her chamber....
Moti was helping her as usual.....
Gul comes after sometime.....
Moti says," arey Gul-e-rana!Kahan ghayab thi itni Der se?"
Ruqaiya smiles and asks," Haan...Haan I am also watching that you are coming late nowadays.....kya hua?"
Gul sits near the bathtub and comes near ruqaiya's ears," Khabar laayi hu begum sahiba!"
Ruqaiya replies," kaisa Khabar?"
She says," I think for that we have to go to maham anga's chamber right now"

For the unversed, there had been news from the maids about meeting of maham with some chadar clad woman....

Ruqaiya quickly cleaned herself and changed to a simple anarkali as it was early morning......
When she was going towards maham anga's chamber....she sees them talking in the corridor.....
Gul and ruqaiya hide themselves.....
They also witnessed that maham gave some gold to the woman....she was covered in a black chadar....
Ruqaiya was not able to see her face as only her eyes were visible....
Then the lady leaves from there and maham goes inside her chamber.....

Ruqaiya turns to Gul," now you keep your eyes on maham....I am going after the lady...!"
Gul replies," but begum sahiba...it could be dangerous.....you cannot go there without a backup...what if the lady attacks you...!"

* in maham's chamber*
Maham opens the scroll and reads it.....
She looks at the maid who was standing near the bed....
She smiles," it's time to get some new clothes,right zarina?"
Zarina her most trusted maid just arrived from Persia after completing her task....(the scroll was also brought by her)
Zarina smiles too....
She says," woh to Hai.....aakir mein shikar shikari ki chal me too aagaya..."
And they both laugh.....

Ruqaiya returns back to her chamber to see salima begum waiting for her.....
Salman asks," where were you? "
Ruqaiya says," woh salima begum- woh-kya"
She was cut short by Salima....
" you go get ready....we have to leave right?"
Ruqaiya did not have clue....
" did you forget? Today is rahim's first day in madrasa....we have to go to leave him there!"
Ruqaiya says," oh! That went out of mind! I will change and come"
And salima looks on.....

Ruqaiya was sitting near the fountain writing something in a paper....
Maham anga appeared from nowhere....
She sat near ruqaiya who sensed her presence....
Maham starts, " what a pity! The ruqaiya begum! Mallika-e-hind! There were times that one has to definitely look at your face everyday in this harem....but now....you had to hide yourself in your chamber...because your husband doesn't love you anymore!"
Ruqaiya stopped her writing and looked at maham who was smirking...
She had a composed attitude which irked  maham......
She continued smiling, " what can you even say now! I can understand.... a queen  who could not give a child to her king is not considered a woman itself...you have become barren-"

Ruqaiya cuts in," aur ek lafz agar aapke muh se Nikla.... I will not tolerate it.... who gave you permission to throw tantrums at me maham! "
Maham stood from her place....
She continues, " or u had forgotten who ruqaiya sultan is! "
Maham replies," how will I forget,BEGUM sahiba"
She replies," mmhm..... looks like you are wearing a new dupatta. .  From Persia,right?"
Maham widens her eyes and gets nervous.....
Ruqaiya smiles at the sight.....
" kya ab yakeen Aya ki mein wohi mallika-e-hind hoon"
Maham nods her in answer....and leaves from there.....

Ruqiaya thinks,'the snake is trying hard to show it's face.....which means it had planned  a masterstroke..... I will have to warn shehensha  about it...'

It was night.....
*in shehensha's chamber*
Ruqaiya was stern in meeting him today whatever others say.....but was amused to see the drama already happening.....
