As I drove away from the company gates, the sun warmed my face and the wind tousled my hair. A sense of exhilaration and contentment filled me as I thought about the big decision I had made. Proposing to Mayura again, this time without pretense or secrecy, felt like the right step towards making things right.

My phone call to my parents was met with enthusiasm. Maa’s squeal of delight and Papa’s playful comment about loving Mayura even more than me brought a genuine smile to my face. I had always known they were supportive, but hearing their happiness so openly was a comfort.

The plan to hold the wedding in the palace, surrounded by family and friends, was perfect. The grandeur of the palace would only enhance the joy of the occasion, and it felt fitting to unite my life with Mayura in the place where I had grown up. The thought of seeing Mayura in her bridal attire, glowing with happiness, made me impatient for the day to come.

On my way back to the palace, I decided to surprise Mayura with a bouquet of her favorite roses. An old man selling roses by the roadside caught my eye. His gentle demeanor and weathered face drew me in, and I bought every rose he had. I could imagine Mayura’s delighted expression when she saw them.

As I arrived at the palace and walked towards our chambers, I was lost in thoughts of how I would present the flowers to her. I envisioned her surprise and the way her eyes would light up. But when I entered the living room, I was met with an unexpected sight.

Mayura was on the couch, dressed in an adorable dragon night suit, and she was holding a small child in her lap. The child, with big brown eyes and a cheerful demeanor, was snuggled close to her. Instantly, a wave of jealousy surged through me. Who was this child, and why was he receiving all of Mayura’s attention?

Trying to mask my feelings, I approached them with a bouquet of roses in hand. “Who is this?” I asked, my voice carrying a trace of irritation I couldn’t quite suppress.

“This is Mayank,” Mayura said, her voice soft and affectionate. “He’s the son of my friend’s older sister. I promised to look after him for a few hours.”

“And why is he sitting on your lap?” I demanded, my tone more abrupt than I intended.

Mayura chuckled, her eyes twinkling with amusement. “Because he wanted to, and I couldn’t resist those big brown eyes!” Her laughter was infectious, but my attention remained fixated on the tiny interloper.

I held out the bouquet, hoping it would distract from my evident jealousy. “I brought you flowers,” I said, attempting to sound nonchalant.

Mayura’s smile was radiant as she took the roses, but her attention quickly returned to Mayank, who had wrapped his small arms around her legs. My heart sank a little as I watched them. The bouquet felt almost insignificant in comparison to the joyful interaction between Mayura and the child.

“Someone, please, get this baby dinosaur away from my wife!” I thought, trying to suppress a grin at my own ridiculousness. I knew it was silly to be envious of a child, but seeing Mayura so engrossed with him made me feel oddly displaced.

“Abhimaan, don’t be jealous,” Mayura said, her voice gentle but teasing. “He’s just a sweet little boy.”

“Sweet little boy?” I huffed, feeling even more like a sulking child. “He’s a tiny dinosaur! What’s he doing here?”

Mayura’s laughter filled the room. “He’s here because he’s adorable and needs someone to look after him. Besides, aren’t you supposed to be the king of this castle?” she asked playfully.

The mention of being the king brought a slight smile to my lips. “I suppose I’ll allow this little monster to stay for now,” I said, trying to sound magnanimous.

Mayura’s eyes sparkled as she continued to coo over Mayank, who seemed to bask in the attention. I stood there, feeling a mix of amusement and frustration. The roses, once a symbol of my love and dedication, now felt like an afterthought.

As the evening progressed, I found myself gradually adjusting to the presence of our small guest. I watched as Mayura fed Mayank, her face lighting up with each of his giggles and gurgles. The sight was endearing, and my initial irritation slowly melted away.

I joined Mayura and Mayank on the floor, playing with the child. Mayank’s innocent laughter and playful gestures had a way of softening my mood. My jealousy faded as I realized that Mayura’s affection for Mayank didn’t diminish her love for me; it merely added another layer of warmth to our lives.

By the end of the night, I found myself laughing along with Mayura and Mayank. The child’s endearing antics and Mayura’s genuine joy made me appreciate the simplicity and purity of the moment. It was a reminder of the beauty of innocence and the joy of sharing love.

As Mayura and I tucked Mayank in for the night, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for this unexpected turn of events. Our little guest had brought a new perspective to our lives, and I was reminded of the importance of embracing the simple pleasures of life.

Mayura and I shared a quiet moment together after Mayank had fallen asleep. We talked about the upcoming wedding, our plans, and our future. The evening had been a reminder of how our love continued to grow, even in the presence of unexpected challenges.

With Mayura by my side, and the joy of the evening still fresh in my heart, I knew that our love was strong and enduring. No matter the challenges or distractions, our bond would remain unshakable, and our life together would be filled with love, laughter, and endless possibilities.
