“Good morning sunshine, I’m glad you’re still here”, I hummed, stroking a brwon strand of hair out of her face. The sun was shining through the window. Her eyelids were closed and I imagined she had a small smile on her face. The white blanket covered her tiny body. She looked almost like an angel.
So peaceful.
So innocent.
So beautiful.
I just wish I could see the perfect beautiful blue of her eyes.
She had a surgery yesterday. I didn’t even go home. I have been by her side the whole night. As soon as the doctor let me in. He said, she had been very lucky and the injury wasn’t the biggest problem. It was rather, that she was horribly underweight and he was sure she would be very instable and in danger of depression, when she wakes up. He recommended us, to go on vacation somewhere warm and sunny, where she could forget and forgive.
She also didn’t know her Dad was dead. But time after time she would be able to get through with the past and she and I would have a wonderful future ahead of us. Just the thought of it made me smile.
I stroke her cheek. I was afraid to break her, just by touching her. She seemed even more dainty, than when I saw her the last time. So vulnerable. So weak. I blinked a tear away.
Thinking about, what this guy must have done to her, I felt sick. I felt angry. And I felt confused. How could someone do that to her?
I looked outside the window, just thinking about all the bad things happening outside, when I felt her hand move inside mine.
My head immediately flipped over to her and I saw her eyes a tiny bit open.
”Hey”, I whispered, suddenly unable to speak. Tears were about to come, although I didn’t want them to. I have cried enough.
She smiled a small, wry smile and her eyes opened even more. Slowly her mouth opened, and almost not hear-able she breathed:
”Dan.”
”I’m here”, I said, pressing her hand gently. “Nothing’s going to harm you, now. Never again”
She smiled bigger, but then frowned. Obviously she was in pain!
”I’ll go get the doctor.”, I said, about to stand up. But she looked at me with a begging gaze, as if to tell me, nit to go away.
”But…” I stopped talking. I would do what she wanted to. Now, that I got her back, now that she was safe, there was nothing more to wish for, than just having her with me.
”Do you want anything?”, I asked. She moved her lips, but I didn’t hear a sound. So I got my ear closer to her mouth. “You”, she breathed.
I gently pressed a kiss on her lips. It was the most amazing feeling I have ever had.
I had her back. She was living. She was going to alright! I still couldn’t believe it.
I pulled back my head, to look at her. Her eyes were now completely open, and the color was a perfect blue. Which meant she was happy. I knew that. Her eyes were green when she was sad or afraid and grey when she was angry or bored.
”Hello there! Glad to see you’re awake. I actually didn’t expect you to wake up that early”, the doctor said, gently closing the door behind him. “I am also happy to tell you, that you can go home in a week, if everything goes well. Oh and the first few days, you better use a wheelchair, until you have enough strenght to walk again. Take care of her, alright”, he then said, looking at me. He pulled in one of these instable looking wheelchairs, they use in hospital. Then he smiled at us and left, after saying: “Get her something to eat.”
”Thank you.”, I said, and I meant it. I couldn’t express how thankful I was.
I looked at Fay again and she was trying to sit up in bed. She was recovering incredibly fast. She cleared her throat.
”Dan.”, she said, her voice still a little hoarse, “I am hungry, I could eat you up right now.” I laughed at her playfully serious look and then easily picked her up and put her down into the wheel chair.
“What do you want?”, I asked, when we arrived in the cafeteria.
”Everything”, she said. I snickered. Then I ordered loads of food and we sat down at the table next to the window. Sunrays lit it up and Fay beamed almost more than them.
”Here you go, my fair lady”, I said in a posh voice. She laughed a hoarse, but happy laugh and thanked me. Then she ate half a sausage roll, before looking at me, putting it down to the plate again.
”What is it?”, I asked.
”I feel sick.”, she said, tears in her eyes. What was wrong?
”Well, then, you don’t have to eat anymore.”, I said. Her face was turning more and more grey, and I got worried again. Without thinking twice about it I pushed her out of the cafeteria and out of the main entrance. The air was cool and fresh. That was exactly what I wanted.
”Just breath.”, I said, laying my hand on her shoulder.
”What is wrong with me?”, she said, her voice was shaking as much as her hands.
”Maybe you should have started with something more…I dunno, healthy than a sausage roll?”
Her shoulders started shaking, too and I knew she was crying. I went around the wheel chair and looked into her eyes. Tears were rolling down her cheeks and I brushed them gently away, until she stopped crying.
”It is going to be alright.”, I said. And I knew it, but I didn’t know, if she knew.
quite late, i know, but I currently have like a creativity block(i dunno how you say that..) but yeah.
