It is 1978 at Hogwarts. The Great Hall buzzed with loud, lively chatter from the students. The loudest voices belonged to a particular group—calling themselves the Marauders, the infamous pranksters of the entire school. This squad was made up of James Fleamont Potter, Sirius Orion Black, Remus John Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew. Like every year since fifth year, James was, once again, trying his best to charm a certain red-haired girl, Lily Evans, into going on a date with him.
At the teachers' table, Professors Dumbledore and McGonagall were engaged in conversation when an owl suddenly interrupted them, landing before Dumbledore with a letter in its beak.
"Albus, were you expecting someone?" McGonagall asked, raising an eyebrow at the letter as Dumbledore's eyes twinkled, his smile growing at the sight of the sealed message.
"Hmm... no, Minerva," he replied, his voice light with curiosity, "but we might be welcoming some new students." He opened the letter.
"Hello Professors,
In a few minutes, you are going to have two new students—two girls, one for Slytherin and one for Ravenclaw. They will arrive in a strange manner, but I trust that you can handle it. These girls are from the future. And they also where in another worl where neither one of us exists. They've learned many things from that world, and I hope they can alter the future for us—a future that may not be pleasant for many.
The Slytherin and the Ravenclaw are best friends and will most likely always be together. Though one is a year older than the other, they are as close as family. Both are remarkable students. Lastly, there is a chance they cannot return to their original time. Please do not show this letter to them now; only reveal it if they cannot return, so that they may understand I am sorry for sending them here—or perhaps glad, if they find happiness.
P.S. I can't reveal my identity at the moment, but I am sure you will find out from the girls in time."
The professors read the letter in silence.
"Wha—" Before Professor McGonagall could finish her question, a loud explosion echoed through the hall, startling both students and teachers alike. Dust filled the air, spreading out from the epicenter of the blast.
"Sami, why would you put this in our potion?" a female voice with a French accent broke the stunned silence.
"Oh, I don't know, Fin, maybe because it was in the bloody book!" replied another girl with a British accent. "Slughorn's going to fail us!" the first voice whined.
As the dust began to clear, two figures became visible. The first girl had long, medium-dark brown hair tied back in a messy bun and wore glasses. She was dressed in a long black shirt with a collar and blue dungarees.
The second girl was slightly shorter, with short hair streaked in dark and light brown, and wore glasses like her friend. She was dressed in a gray top, blue shorts, and a green checkered overshirt.
"Mia, why are we in the Great Hall?" the smaller girl asked, looking around with wide, bewildered eyes.
"I—I don't know," Mia stammered, her eyes darting around. "Everything looks different."
"Girls, if I may have your attention, I believe you were sent here," came the voice of the headmaster, his tone calm but kind.
"Professor, I—we don't understand," Fin replied, looking up at him with confusion.
"Mia, look at the teachers. Those aren't ours," Fin said, pointing to the unfamiliar faces at the teachers' table.
"Yes, that would be quite right," the headmaster began, his tone warm but curious. "I must say, I'm surprised you two arrived this way." He paused, studying their expressions. "A few moments ago, we received a letter stating that two girls from the future would be joining us. I assume that must be you."
"Wait... the future?" The girls exchanged panicked glances. "What year is it?" they asked in unison.
"It is 1978."
"Bloody hell," Mia muttered.
"Dios mío!" (Oh God) Fin cursed in shock.
"One question, if I may," Dumbledore asked, studying them with a gentle, questioning gaze, "do you have any idea who might have sent you here?"
Flashback
"Sam! Sam! Sam! Sam! I gotta tell you a secret!" Fin ran up to her best friend, breathless.
Samia—also called Sami—looked up, puzzled. "Fin, not now," she whispered, side-eyeing the Golden Trio nervously.
"Oh... Merlin, sorry," Fin whispered back, sheepishly.
"No problem," Sami said. "Anyway, what did you want?"
"Do you have the time-turner?" asked Harry Potter, one of Sam and Fin's friends.
Sam nodded and handed it to him.
"What do you want it for?" Fin asked, curious.
"We're testing an experiment," Hermione said, her eyes bright with mischief. The Golden Trio thanked them and went off with the time-turner, waving goodbye.
"Well, that was weird," Fin remarked, raising her eyebrows. Sam only nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, it was. Anyway, we should really hide those phones we brought from the other world. Harry found one and was asking me about it. It was terrifying," Sam said, shuddering a little as they headed back toward the castle.
"Oh, dear. That must have been rough. But, you know, life can be hard... but you can be harde—no, no, wait, that came out so wrong. Forget what I just said," Fin muttered, trying to look everywhere except at Sam, who tried not to burst out laughing.
"Ha! So, what class do we have next?" Sam asked, amused.
"Um... oh, Potions!" Fin replied happily.
"Now, tell me, what was that secret you had?" Sam asked with a hint of curiosity.
In Potions, the task was to recreate Veritaserum. Everyone got their books and started gathering ingredients, but while Sam and Fin were distracted, Harry slipped something extra into their cauldron. A little later, Sam threw in the last ingredient.
"Sam... I told you not to add that," Fin said, suddenly anxious.
"Bloody hell, I'm sorry—I forgot!" Sam apologized, but it was too late. The cauldron began shaking violently, and the two girls quickly backed away just before it exploded.
End of Flashback
"I knew it—Harry did something!" Sam said, looking at Fin with a knowing expression. "I saw him glancing at our book, and he was the only one near it."
"Oh, god, why does Harry have to be so much like his father?" Fin groaned, burying her head in Sam's shoulder.
