Hayley walked in the darkness in search of a place to rest for the night. Faded lights flickered in the distance signifying a town or village was nearby. A glimpse of hope mixed with uncertainty flashed over Hayley's face. She knew if demons attacked her at this moment she would not survive, she had no strength remaining in her to fight. Hayley cringed from the pain that shot through her side as she continued walking. “Please oh please just give me a break for goodness sake,” Hayley whispered to herself.
As Hayley walked towards the lights, she spotted a small church on her left. Hayley stopped, then hesitantly walked toward the church. She walked slowly up the three steps. She reached out her hand towards the big wooden door and pushed it open. The door opened with a screech. She gritted her teeth with apprehension, slowly entering the church. The floors were covered in broken wood, dust, and glass. All the windows in the church were knocked out. The wind made itself known with its whistling sound as it entered through the windows. With every step Hayley took the wooden floor creaked under her feet. Hayley looked around the abandoned church in search of a place to rest. She spotted a ripped curtain underneath a broken bench. Hayley slowly walked toward the benches and pulled what was left of the curtain out from underneath. She pushed the broken wood away with her feet and laid the curtain down to rest on. Hayley laid down and closed her eyes while she held tightly onto her Katar’s.
Awoke with a start. She instantly sat upright, monitoring her surroundings.
“And here I thought sleeping beauty would never awake.”
Hayley's eyes widened as she heard a voice of a young man. She instantly jumped to her feet and turned toward the voice, standing in a fighting position. A young man with dreadlocks, red eyes, dark skin, and white teeth stared back at her with his head tilted.
“What the fuck are you?” Hayley asked.
“Oooh, little feisty one we have here, hahaha. This is going to be fun.” The guy clapped his hands together. He smelt the air and then released a deep breath.
“Oh, Betty come and see what I have here…” The man sang joyfully.
Hayley narrowed her eyes in confusion. This was the first time she ever met someone apart from a human or demon. Hayley looked frantically around for the Betty person but still kept one eye on the guy.
“O my… o my, hiehiehie.” A girl’s voice and giggles echoed through the church. In a blink of a second, the girl was next to the guy.
“Why does she smell different Randy? I bet her blood tastes just as good as she smells.” Betty said as she looked with anticipation at Hayley.
“I heard of them but never met one before.” Randy tilted his head and then asked. “Why are you sleeping here and not in your realm?” Randy asked curiously.
“Stop being boring Randy! What’s with the questions? I want to play! Come. Let’s play with her.” The girl said in a child-like manner.
Randy looked annoyed at Betty. He ignored her and then looked back at Hayley waiting for her to answer.
Hayley stared confused at the duo in front of her.
Annoyed she asked, “What hole did you two climb out of? And you,” Hayley pointed with her Katar at Betty. “What is a crazy person doing loose? Ought you to be on a leash or something?” Hayley said with a smirk.
Betty glared at Hayley. Randy almost choked on his saliva listening to the girl in front of him. He looked with curiosity at Hayley. Then answered. “We are Vampires and we don't put our kind on leashes.”
“So what does your kind do? Disturb others while they are sleeping then bore them to death?” Hayley asked.
Randy narrowed his eyes. “Didn't your kind teach you the legend?” Randy looked curiously at Hayley's reaction
