this final match of the tournament was brutal for aoba johsai, who lost both sets 22-25 and 23-25.
y/n waited outside in the back exit with a sad, upside down smile and post game drinks. she gave the first and second years a quick hug while the third years loitered behind. mattsukawa and hanamaki were the first to see her and immediately started bawling as soon as y/n pulled them in a group hug.
"c'mon, issei. how old are we? we can't have y/n-chan see us crying like babies." hanamaki mumbled out, the three letting out a little chuckle and while tears continued to flow.
"i don't see anyone crying," y/n pulled away, smiling at the boys. "i'm proud of you guys."
"y/n-channn you're gonna make us cry again." hanamaki sniffled, making way for oikawa.
y/n looked at her brother figure, immediately giving him a tight hug.they were in the same position for a while, reminiscing their last possible game.
she wouldn't need telepathy to read oikawa's mind. she could tell that he was thinking about his serve that was received by their libero, which allowed their setter to pass to ushijima. the spike broke through a three-man block and allowed them to win.
the three blockers in the rotation were her best friends, hanamaki, matsukawa and iwaizumi.
y/n felt oikawa's hesitancy to talk, but she interrupted, "shut up, tooru. you did amazing and was as flawless as ever. i'm so incredibly proud."
she broke apart from the hug and looked at her other two friends standing off to oikawa's sides. giving them one more sad smile, "i'm proud of all of you."
the three third years immediately tackled her to a group hug, grateful for their friend and her support. she also saw kindaichi and kunimi off to the side and ushered them into the hug.
surprisingly, the first years complied and joined the group.
off to the side, iwaizumi looked at the group, a strange and familiar feeling in his chest. he's had the feeling many times before like when he and oikawa graduated from middle school, or after last year's tournament where they lost to shiratorizawa. he's also felt it before he was dating yumie, when all the girls will only notice oikawa and not him.
it was odd, but he figured it was because they lost to the same team for years, and this was one of the last chances they get to beat them.

sundays were the one day of the week where iwaizumi allowed his body to rest, typically spoiling himself by eating a full meal rather than quick little snacks. today, he allowed himself go sleep in and have a full on lazy sunday, opting to watch a movie, eat instant ramen and laid around. just as he was about to doze off from the third godzilla film, he felt his phone vibrate multiple times.
