"i can't understand any of this, no wonder why you're only vice-captain. i'm leaving, i'll just ask someone else to tutor me. bye hajime, love you."

iwaizumi recalled the words of his girlfriend last weekend. he tried his best to help her throughout the day and thought he was doing well, but apparently not to yumie's eyes. he sighed, reviewing the lesson in science and making sure he understood it.

it was currently lunch and while he'd usually spend it with the other third years, he was in the library making sure he knew the material so he could tutor his girlfriend better next time.

he grabbed his third cup of coffee and sipped on it, taking a quick break to let his eyes roam around the place. his eyes landing on a family figure walking towards him.

"good afternoon, iwaizumi-san. do you mind if i sit here?" y/n asked, motioning to the seat in front of him. he nodded, setting his drink back down as she placed her library books on her left side, taking a seat. "are you studying for the test this friday?"

"yeah, my girlfriend needs help so i'm making sure i know the topic well before i teach it to her." he says. he hasn't been able to see the girl other than in class due to spending the mornings driving yumie to school and volleyball practice.

while he was busy, oikawa still took it upon himself hang out with y/n when he's free, resulting to the rumors of the two dating. he didn't know why, it was clear they had more of a sibling relationship. "she's pretty, but she reminds me too much of nee-san. i don't think i could ever like her like that." he recalled oikawa's words.

y/n hummed, "your girlfriend is certainly lucky, iwaizumi-san. you're making sure you learn the subject so you can teach it to her. i admire that of you."

the boy blushed, her surprised compliments and praise still got to him. "ah- thank you. i always try to be a better boyfriend."

y/n was about to say something when her text tone went off. she quickly checked it, seeing it was oikawa. "i have to go, oikawa-kun wants me to give him the milk bread i stole from him this morning."

"oikawa... kun?" iwaizumi thought, curious to when she'd changed honorifics. "was he over working himself again?"

"mhm. i took it from him so he could stop practicing this morning, luckily it worked." y/n chuckled, grabbing her stuff and stood up. she set a water bottle in front of iwaizumi, his eyebrow rose questioningly. "don't forget to hydrate, your health also matters." she says before leaving the library, heading towards the gymnasium where he assumed oikawa was at.

iwaizumi looked towards her direction for a few more moments before going back to study, making a mental note to scold oikawa for overworking again.

"oikawa-kun, here's your milk bread." y/n says, handing him the bag. "good afternoon to you also, makki-kun, matsu-kun."

"hey, l/n-chan, you're finally able to sit lunch with us." hanamaki greeted, scooting over to make room on the bench.

y/n smiled, also handing the two other third years their own bags before sitting down next to the light brown headed boy. hanamaki and matsukawa gratefully accepted theirs, excited to see their favorite food in the bag.

"thank you for the créame puffs, l/n-chan!"

"yeah, thanks for the hamburger steak!"

the three boys took out their food, happily saying their prayers before digging in. matsukawa's eyes widened, the food was delicious but there was cheese inside that made him surprised. "cheese...?"

"yup! makki-kun told me about how you like it, is it good?" y/n responded, wary of his answer.

"it's delicious, better than i expected!" he says, digging in for more. "y'know, you could be one of the best athletic trainers in the future. learning medicine and cooking? that's a score for the future teams you work for."

hanamaki agreed with his best friend, wiping off some powdered sugar from his cheek, "do you have a specific team you're going to for college, l/n-chan?"

"there's a trainer who graduated from shiratorizawa around the time they won nationals. he became a professional player for division two in the v. league, i think he's in america right now." she answered before starting to eat her own food.

oikawa was about to argue with the fact the guy was from shiratorizawa, but the familiarity in his description made him stop. he skimmed through his memories to try to find how it might be familiar when it clicked to him, "utsui takashi?"

y/n snapped her head to him, "yeah, how'd you know, oikawa-kun?"

"iwa-chan wants to study under him, too." he answered.

there were stars in the girl's eyes, "really? that's such a strange coincidence! do you think he would help me study under him, too?"

"of course, l/n-chan! it would be cool that you guys go to the same college." hanamaki says, popping another créame puff in his mouth.

"yeah, like you said, it's a strange coincidence. we can't let this opportunity pass by." matsukawa chuckled, gulping down his bottled water.

"and i can't always be there for him." oikawa thought, thinking about his bestfriend's current struggles. he wished that he knew how uragiri worked before they'd dated.

he feels like he needs to make up for it.
