"i definitely failed that final y/n-channn~" matsukawa groaned, shaking the girl's shoulders.
hanamki pushed his friend out of the way, making matsukawa stumble on the grass. "y/n-chan, you are more than welcome to just y'know, smack the fuck out of him."
this action led to the two third years bickering and bantering, while also trying to hit one another. y/n just sweatdropped at the scene. iwazumi rolled his eyes and interfered, mocking both of the teens and telling them to grow up. oikawa let out a giggle at the scolding, making iwaizumi turn his scolding towards the captain.
"so... now that summer's coming up, what're everyone's plans?" kindaichi wondered. he was walking with kunimi and yahaba when they were highly encouraged (forced) by hanamaki and y/n to hang out before the break.
"the third years don't really have anything planned, to be honest," hanamaki commented.
"i have plans!" oikawa countered.
"babysitting takeru doesn't count when he wants to hang out with everyone else but you, shittykawa." matsukawa argued back.
yahaba ignored their banter, "i don't think the first and second years have any plans either."
"we could always do a few sand volleyball matches." hanamaki recommended.
"are you free, y/n-chan?" iwaizumi wondered, curious about the girl's plans and availability for the summer.
y/n was about to respond when oikawa intervened, "she won't be in town, iwa-chan, do you really not listen?"
"i didn't realize your name was y/n-chan, tooru-nii. "the shorter girl pushed him out of the way in annoyance before turning back to iwaizumi, "i'll be in tokyo for the week with karasuno, nekoma, and a few other powerhouse schools in the area for training camp."
"oh, that's awesome to hear. sounds like a good opportunity for practicing your sports medicine, right?"
y/n nodded, happily explaining the opportunities coach nekomata and the other tokyo coaches provided her during her time in tokyo. since she knew what she wanted to be at an early age and the connections her parents had, she was able to apply for internships all around the city. with her certifications, y/n is able to intern at training camps, though there is still a nurse or medic available for serious injuries.
the rest of the group watched the two, smirking at how attentive iwaizumi was.

"yo oikawa, where's your volleyball?" iwaizumi was over at oikawa's house. their summer break wasn't very long, but they have been playing volleyball for most of their time, so their time was occupied by practice.
the ace figured he should stop by before their practice at 3pm, but his friend seemed to be engrossed in something else entirely. he groaned, receiving no answer from the boy. finding a small ball, he chucks it at his head, resulting in oikawa turning around and complaining.
"that really hurts, iwa-chan!" he grumbled, noticing that his earbuds got disconnected.
iwaizumi raised a brow, not realizing that he had his earbuds in, about to apologize when a familiar voice. "oya- iwaizumi-san! come to saitama to check out how great we got!"
"eh?!" oikawa looked back at the screen, allowing iwaizumi to see kuroo and y/n on the video call with oikawa. "what about me, you rooster bastard?!"
"yeah? well you weren't there for our first match with karasuno, fanbase!" kuroo stuck out his tongue playfully, riling up oikawa.
iwaizumi shoved oikawa out of the way, the poor setter pouting as he rolled away in his chair, "how long's the drive?"
y/n's eyes widened at his question, not expecting him to agree so easily. kuroo smirked, "only four hours."
iwaizumi hummed, trying to do the math in his head. y/n interfered, "h-hey, iwaizumi-kun, you don't have to come- you're more than welcome to turn down this rooster. it's a long drive-"
the boy chuckled at her protest, "it's really no worries y/n-chan. besides, you probably need a ride from saitama, right? i'll be there friday night." he declared.
"e-eh?!" y/n tries to convince iwaizumi out of it, but kuroo and oikawa just laugh, encouraging him even more.
"fanbase and i have practice with our team soon, so we have to head out, but i'll see you soon, kuroo-san, y/n-chan." the two boys bid their friends farewell before ending the call. iwaizumi could feel oikawa's smugness, "don't even."
"hey, i'm not saying anything, iwa-chan~" the boy smirked, getting up to get his volleyball from his closet. "driving all the way to tokyo just to see her, huh?"
iwaizumi groaned, not knowing what came over him. sure, he does consider the nekoma team a lot more than acquaintances thanks to y/n still keeping in contact with them, but he wouldn't have ever done this if it was yumie.
"hey... i should probably confirm my break up with yumie, huh?" iwaizumi wondered, feeling weird to go to tokyo while still being in a situationship with uragiri.
oikawa hummed, walking through his house as iwaizumi follows behind, "if it were me, yeah. you've seen her stories, posts and her friends. i don't think she cares anymore, but that's your conversation to have."
the two take a seat in iwaizumi's car. the short drive was uncharacteristically long and quiet, but as iwaizumi puts it into park in front of the school, he confirms. "yeah. i'll talk to her tomorrow, before i leave."
oikawa nodded, smiling at his friend, "go for it."
