Chapter 21: Investigation

A few weeks had passed and all Arthur did was drink alcohol without any limit, and Catherine is really worried about his health.

He received another call, "Is this the detective?"

"Yes, we found them"

Arthur stood up, "Are you in your office?"

"No, I'm here at the police station, they'll go into questioning"

Arthur hung up and left the house again, leaving Catherine all alone again.

It took him 30 minutes to arrive in the police station. He then saw 5 men as he entered the room and started yelling, "YOU! YOU ORDERED YOU TO KILL MY FAMILY?! WHO ORDERED YOU?!"

The detective and the other policemen were holding him back, even Mr. Dock is there since he needs justice for his grandchildren.

"WHO ORDERED YOU?!"

One of the 5 men spoke, "It's someone you know"

"WHO?! YOU TOOK MY CHILDREN'S LIVES! HOW COULD YOU DO THIS?! WHY WOULD YOU EVEN WORK LIKE THIS?!"

"Because we needed the money!"

And Arthur punched him in the face, "TELL ME, WHO ORDERED YOU TO DO THIS!"

"If we tell that person's name, we will get punished"

"YOU ARE WITH THE POLICE! YOU ARE ALREADY PROTECTED! JUST TELL US WHO ORDERED YOU!!!"

The detective received another call, "Hello?"

"This is Adam!"

Everyone starts looking at him.

"Adam?"

"Why is Adam calling you?!" Arthur yelled.

"Sir Adam, why are you calling"

"I have a confession, meet me in my house!"

"Where is-"

Arthur stepped up, "I know where his house is"

The detective hung up and he told Arthur to come with him, he even brought the police with them.

They got inside the car and drove off, they have to get there as soon as possible.

After an hour, they headed to Adam's house, all of them got out of the car and they barged into Adam's house.

But as they entered the house, Adam is found bloody dead on the ground.

"SHIT!" Arthur cursed.

Adam's eyes were gauged out, it also seems like he was stabbed numerous times, his mouth was opened and they noticed that his tongue was cut off.

It looks like somebody doesn't want him to say something.

They checked around his whole house until they find something, the detective went inside his bedroom and opened his drawers, however, as he opened one drawer, the detective noticed one photo of a family and one photo of a girl.

He slowly grabbed the photo of a girl and a family, and it turns out, it was the same photo of Catherine which was used in the box with blood on that photo, it seems like he made 2 copies, and a photo of the whole Shire family.

What did the Shire family do to receive death threats from different people?

The detective went downstairs and showed them the photo of Catherine and the whole family, Arthur couldn't believe what he just saw.

"So... He is the one who hired the killers?"

"Or maybe George has something to do with this..."

Arthur muttered under his breath, "Fuck"

Adam's body was covered in white cloth and the others went to the questioning room to confirm if Adam and George are the ones ordering them.

They entered questioning room later on, the detective showed George's photo, "Is he the one paying you?!"

But the 5 men shook their head.

"Liar!" They tested then with a painful lie detector test however, they were telling the truth.

"How about this man?" The detective showed Adam's photo.

"He has something to do with this, he ordered us to kill a woman but he didn't order us to kill your families..."

They looked at those 5 men weirdly, "Then who ordered you to kill our families!"

"Nobody, it's just us, you are so wealthy and we wanted you to die!"

But the detective didn't believe them, "Liar! Someone ordered you to do this!" Even though the 5 men are deeply forced, they still had the same reason over and over and over again until they are finally arrested.

The mens' arrest were all over the news and they are sentenced to death.

The detective went to his office, "Arthur, I swear it's must have been Adam who ordered them, remember you mentioned you didn't help him find his missing son? Maybe he's taking revenge?"

The detective showed a photo of a woman, and Arthur's eyes were widely opened, "This is the woman who kept looking for her child!"

Arthur slammed his fists on the table, "WE SHOULDN'T HAVE PUT THOSE MEN IN A DEATH SENTENCE FIRST SO WE WOULD KNOW THE TRUTH!"

"Adam was the one who ordered those men to kill her"

"Why?"

"I tried so hard to connect the dots and now I have found them, so this woman and Adam are looking for their missing children, a few months had passed, Adam has found Robert, his son, and since the woman is everywhere to look for her daughter, she was mad that he found his child but she can't find hers, out of jealousy, she killed Robert and left, when you were out of out of town, the group men barged into your house, Adam noticed those men are the group of killers and hired them to kill the woman, the killers are smart in terms of location, and Adam's sink has blood detected on it..."

Arthur hummed, "So... What did George do? Why is our family included in all of these things?"

"Because of Catherine..."

Arthur raises his eyebrows, "Why is Catherine in this conversation?"

"Look" The detective prepared an envelope, "This is Catherine's birth certificate, Margaret Penelope Catherine Brown, her father was the one who was thrown after being killed."

"THAT'S HER FATHER?!" Arthur widened his eyes.

"Yes, it's proven with his body..."

"What else?"

"The woman, her mother has insane psychological problems that's why Catherine left, her biological parents aren't dead, she ran away from her parents during the second world war because she didn't want to live with them, it turns out, she knew you are the family who took her and that's why she followed you around..."

Arthur took a look of the papers.

"Not only that but since the woman killed Robert, Adam also wanted to kill Catherine because unlike Catherine, the woman's child, lived a good life in your household, his son died because he was killed by Catherine's mother..."

"That explains his anger towards my Catherine and my children, since I didn't help him find his son, he also took the lives of my other children because I have more of them and one of them is the child of his son's murderer"

"Yes sir..."
