Chapter 5:

JJ "how's Emerson doing", Emily "she's good, Maria says she almost back to her playful self", JJ "that's good to hear", Emily "yeah. Something on your mind", JJ "you", she said with a little smirk, Emily "not here, the team still doesn't know about us, but what's really on your mind", JJ "do you ever think about having more kids, I get that we, well I have two but do you ever think about having kids", Emily "we have two", she said smiling, Emily "I mean for me, it all depends, watching Henry and Michael grow up it's completely different and it's better than I expected. Their smiles, it's the best thing that I get to come to, you and them. Why do you ask", JJ "what if we could do the same for Emerson, what if we could be Emerson's new start", Emily "as in me and you adopt her", JJ "I know it's a big step but here me out", Emily "lets get to the car first and then you can tell me all about it", JJ "okay". Penelope "are you two out of here", Emily "yes, great work today everyone. Take tomorrow off, and that's an order", Emily and JJ got into the elevator and headed down to the parking garage, and got in their car, heading home. Emily "okay as you were saying", JJ "I get that we haven't been together as a couple that long and that no one really knows about us but Emerson deserves to be loved, to know that she's not alone. I'm sure it'll take some getting used to but I feel like she's our missing piece", Emily "I'm on board with you but we are both gonna have to make some calls and see how we get started on this process", JJ "okay", Emily pulled into their driveway, they paid the nanny, and then she left. Emily "I will be right back", JJ "okay", JJ poured then some wine and turned on Netflix. Emily called the foster home, Maria "Emily, it's so good to hear from you", Emily "yeah, I'm good. How's Emerson doing", Maria "she's great, you know she tells me that she never got the chance to thank you and your team for what you did to save her", Emily "aww it's no big deal, we are just doing our job. Actually I was wondering is she on any list to be adopted soon by anyone", Maria "no, haven't had an open house since the incident, why do you ask", Emily "me and my partner JJ, we are the ones that saved her from the basement that day. Me and JJ are actually a couple and have two boys of our own, and we were interested in fostering Emerson, we would love to eventually adopt Emerson", Maria "really, that's actually so sweet. I'm sure the two of you will qualify, I mean you both got very good jobs, a steady income and schedule. You could actually stop by tomorrow to start filling out some paperwork, and hopefully by the end of the week Emerson could be moved into your home for a brief observation time period and once that time period is over, and everything is cleared, she's in your care and we can continue from there", Emily "oh my gosh, that's great. What time should we come in tomorrow", Maria "I come in around 11 am, so meet me here, that should be good", Emily "okay. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow for sure", Maria "okay. Have a nice rest of the day", Emily "you too", Emily changed and then joined JJ in the living room, JJ "is everything okay", Emily "Maria wants us to stop by tomorrow to fill out some paperwork, and then she says hopefully by the end of the week Emerson could be with us for a few days that's gonna be observed and then it all goes well she's be placed with us as her foster parents until we continue our journey to adopt her", JJ "oh my, that's so great", Emily "yeah. So what are we watching, a horror movie. I thought you don't like horror movies", JJ "I don't but you're here so hopefully I won't get scared", Emily "you can sit in my lap", JJ "okay", JJ put her wine glass down on the table, and then climbed into Emily's lap, Emily played the movie. They laid down, watched the movie and after the movie finished they fell asleep.

The next morning
Emily "good morning beautiful", JJ "good morning, were you watching me sleep", Emily "maybe, you're so cute when you sleep", JJ "so what are our plans for today", Emily "I don't know. What are our plans", she said leaning over to her to kiss her, JJ "is sex on the agenda because we haven't gotten to that point yet", Emily "I know, we will. When the time is right and when we are ready. Oh shoot we are supposed to be meeting up with Maria at the foster home to fill out paperwork", JJ "okay. I kind of wanna play tennis", Emily "I wouldn't mind doing that. We could teach Henry how to play", JJ "yeah. We gotta start getting ready", Emily "okay", the two of them got up and headed to the bathroom to shower. Emily "hey Garcia", Penelope "so we've got another case", Emily "we are off today, another field is gonna have to take the case, we are off and me and JJ are kind of busy", Penelope "okay then. See you back in the office tomorrow", Emily "yeah", she hung up the phone, then her and JJ got ready. JJ "Henry are you almost done", Henry "yes mommy. I brushed my teeth", JJ "good boy, now we gotta do your hair and get you dressed", Henry "mom I wanna wear this", JJ "you can't wear that buddy, that's a Halloween costume and it's pretty hot out today", Henry "okay mom", JJ "how about this shirt and these shorts", Henry "okay", Emily "I'll get Michael dressed", JJ "okay, thank you", after they were all dressed. Emily "to the car", they got in the car and headed to the foster home. Emily parked the car and they headed inside, Henry "mom what is this place", JJ "it's nothing baby, just play on your tablet", Henry "okay", JJ "come sit over here beside your brother", Emily "hi Maria, we spoke on the phone yesterday", Maria "yes, it's good to see you again, you two can come to my office", Emily and JJ followed her to the office, bringing the kids as well. While one was napping and Henry was on his tablet, JJ and Emily spoke with Maria, and began to both fill out some paperwork. Maria "I am actually gonna go get Emerson and discuss the whole plan with her", Emily "okay", JJ "babe", Emily "yes", JJ "what am I supposed to put here, I'm just kidding", Emily "lol", Maria "so do you remember the two agents that saved you", Emerson "yeah, she was really pretty and she was blonde", Maria "yeah. They are actually here, and they wanted to ask you something. Well we kind of ask you all together", Emerson "they're really here", Maria "yeah", upon them seeing each other since the whole manhunt Maya hugged the both of them. Maria "so JJ and Emily are interested in fostering you and then they hope to legally adopt you. Are you okay with that and are on board with that", Emerson "yeah", Maria "okay Emerson you filled out your name here, wherever there is a x, sign your name", Emerson did the paperwork, and Emily and JJ has finished signing their paperwork. Maria "I talked to the board above me and they said that Scarlett could leave with you two today, and in a few days we'll be stopping by just to see her progress and how she adjusts to it. The home visit should be next week and then another will take place the week after", Emily "okay", Maria "Emerson do you wanna go get your backpack and belongings", Maya "can JJ come with me", Maria "if she'd like. She's more than welcome to", JJ "I'd love to sweetie", Emerson left to go get things from her room. After settling down, they left and headed back home, JJ "by the way Henry this is Emerson and Emerson this is our son Henry. And the little one that's Michael", Emerson "hi Henry", she said shyly, Henry "hi", he replied back. They arrived home. Emily "Henry why don't you show Emerson around the house, while me and mommy start cooking dinner", Henry "okay", Henry started to take Emerson around the house, showing her everything and just giving her a tour. Emily "you okay", JJ "yeah, I'm just really really happy", Emily "me too", JJ "I'm gonna go check on the kids", Emily "okay, I'm gonna get her room situated for now, it's the least we can do until we actually buy her things for her room", JJ "okay", JJ goes to check on the kids while Emily situates the room for Emerson. JJ "how are you two getting along", Henry "good mommy, we're playing hide and seek", JJ "oh you are", Henry "do you wanna play", JJ "I will count and the two of you can go and hide", Henry and Emerson went to go hide, Emily "what are you doing", JJ "playing hide and seek with the kids, they are already hiding, can you help me find them", Emily "sure", Emily and JJ went around the house and found the kids, upon finding them both kids screamed.

A few days passed.
Emily "hey Penelope", Penelope "so you and JJ haven't been here, is everything okay", Emily "everything is fine, we are just busy and have a lot on our hands and can't afford to not be home", Penelope "okay. But you are both okay though", Emily "yes, we are both okay", Emily hung up the phone. JJ was at the park with the kids, and Emily was in the house rearranging some things, JJ "we're back baby", Emily "how did it go", JJ "Maria actually said that everything is going great, she's pretty impressed with Emerson's progress, that she's made more progress with us than any other placement she's ever been in", Emily "that's good to hear", JJ "yeah, why don't you two go upstairs and get changed for lunch", Henry "okay", Emerson "okay", Emily "what did you do at the park", JJ "they played tag, played in the playground", Emily "yeah I could tell, they all sweaty and out of energy", JJ "yeah. They are both gonna take a nap, in a little while", Emily "okay", after they ate, the kids were put down for a nap. JJ "you okay", Emily "yeah, I'm just admiring how beautiful you are", JJ "when are we gonna tell the team about us, we can't keep this a secret for that long", Emily "I know we can't keep this a secret", JJ "although I am pretty scared to reveal to the team that we are dating", Emily "I feel the same way. This is a big step for the both of us", JJ "we can't tell Penelope, if we tell her the whole world will find out because she's a blabber mouth. Like I love her so much but a secret won't be a secret for that long if we tell her", Emily "yeah I'm sure of that. I'm sure someone is gonna catch us in the middle of the act". A few hours later, the couple called it a night and went to sleep.

My built in best friends, JJ's been my best friend ever since I started working with her in the FBI, she's the kindest, sweetest, most loving person you could ever meet. She's got a lovely heart and I don't even know how to describe her but she's more than my best friend, she's just been there for me, as I have been there for her. She's my missing puzzle piece, and I'm hers, we're nothing without each other.
