Savannah
"Ethan, get out and close the door. I will talk to you in the morning..."
"Where am I supposed to put my friend to sleep if the guest room is taken?"
I looked at the man standing behind Ethan. A tall, handsome guy with dark hair, dressed in a leather jacket and cowboy boots.
"Oh, uh, by the way, this is Rogerio," Ethan stammered, gesturing to the man behind him. "Rogerio Borges. He's a musician from Brazil, a sertanejo singer. We've been playing together, trying to start a band."
My jaw clenched with frustration. "And you thought it would be a good idea to just barge in here? In the middle of the night, without letting us know you were bringing a friend?"
Ethan had the decency to look sheepish, his cheeks flushing with embarrassment. "I'm sorry, Sav. I just... I wanted to surprise you and Grace, that's all. I didn't think..."
"No, you didn't think," I snapped. "You never think, Ethan. You just do whatever the hell you want, without any regard for anyone else."
Wyatt reached out to me, settling his hand on my back trying to calm me down. "Savannah, hey, it's okay. Let's just... you guys can talk about this in the morning, alright?"
"You're right. I'm sorry, I just... I wasn't expecting Ethan to just show up here like this, in the middle of the night."
Wyatt pressed a gentle kiss to my temple. Trying to calm me down further. "Babe, you guys can talk in the morning, okay..."
I took a deep breath, as I turned back to face my brother. "Ethan, just go to bed, alright? Take my room and put your friend in yours. We'll figure out the arrangements later..."
Ethan nodded, looking at Rogerio as they backed out of the room, closing the door behind them. As soon as they were gone, I leaned against Wyatt. Pressing my forehead against Wyatt's chest.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to snap at him like that in front of you and his friend. It's just... Ethan drives crazy sometimes. He is always so impulsive. Sorry, I snapped."
Wyatt wrapped his arms around me, holding me close as he stroked my hair, "I know, babe. But you don't have to apologize, not to me. You've been through hell these past few months, and you're still standin' tall. You're the strongest person I know, Savannah McKinley."
It felt so good to hear Wyatt talking about me like that. And being so supportive, "Wyatt... Thanks... It means a lot coming from you..."
He cupped my face in his hands, his thumbs brushing my cheeks and kissing my lips with a gentle kiss.
We embraced and stayed like that for a moment, just holding each other. And we crawled back into bed and went back to sleep.
Morning came far too soon, the first rays of sunlight streaming through the window. I opened my eyes slowly. Wyatt's arm tightened around my waist as I nestled closer to him, my face buried in the crook of his neck.
For a moment, I just lay there next to him. Breathing him in. But the events of the night before came rushing back to front view. I felt a flicker of unease in the pit of my stomach. Ethan's sudden arrival, the friend he had with him... it was all so unexpected. Suddenly I was wide awake.
I was dreading the conversation that lay ahead with Ethan. I knew that this was something I needed to do on my own.
So, I placed a soft kiss on Wyatt's forehead, and gently untangled myself from his embrace. I eased out of bed and padded softly down the hallway to the kitchen. I put on a pot of coffee and started cooking breakfast.
