Savannah

I sighed as I reached for the phone and I dialed Maggie's number.

"Savannah! I was just about to call you," Maggie's rang out.

"Hey Mags, how are you doing?"

"I'm okay! As you know, a lot is going on!"

"Hey listen! I wanted to tell you that Liam called me. He said he's planning to come for a visit soon. And since June is here... ya know? I thought we could all get together! Just like old times?"

"Yeah, that would be great!" Maggie agreed.

"By the way... I know you still have some feelings for Liam, right?"

Maggie let out a soft sigh. "I don't know, Sav. It's been so long, and we didn't exactly leave things on the best of terms when he left for grad school." She paused. "I mean, I thought I was over him... But since the last time I saw him... A lot of those old feelings started to come back... I couldn't help but feel..."

"Nervous?" I offered.

"No... I feel things resurfacing" she said. "I just don't want to get my hopes up with him... Liam is very complicated as you know..."

I hummed in understanding. "Well, Liam is not exactly the best with his feelings." I paused, biting my lip. "Have you two been in touch at all recently?"

"Not really," Maggie admitted. "We exchanged a few emails here and there, but nothing substantial. I guess we just kind of... drifted apart. Why?"

"He is acting a bit mysterious... I was just curious if you know anything?"

"No, I have no idea... What could it be? Do you think it has something to do with the ranch and the fact that the six months are almost over? With him, it could be so many things... Do you have any clues?"

"No idea... I asked Grace and she is clueless too... I guess we'll find out soon enough... He told me he is coming this weekend..."

"So, are you up for some old fashion getting together?" I asked.

"Of course I am... You know me always ready to party! Just let me know when..."

"Okay I will let you know... I'll probably invite Michael too?"

Maggie's tone shifted. "Speaking of which, I was wondering how things are going with him? How are you getting along?"

I paused. "Well... he actually proposed to me, Maggie."

I heard her gasp. "Wow... that's a lot, Sav."

"Yeah, I know."

"Did you give him an answer yet?"

"No, I haven't... I know after all this time, it's what I've been after to save the ranch, but it just doesn't feel right."

"Yeah, I get that... Listen, there's something I need to tell you,"

"What is it?"

She paused, then continued, "I was talking to him the other day. And he seems to think that if he marries you, he'll get half the ranch."

I felt my heart drop into my stomach, and I leaned forward, gripping the phone tighter. "He what?" I couldn't keep the shock out of my voice. "Are you serious, Mags?"

"I'm afraid I am," Maggie rushed to say. "I should have told you sooner but I wasn't sure if he said what he said until he brought it up again. And I realized he was seriously thinking he was going to get part of the ranch. Have you mentioned the ranch to him at all?"
