Savannah

It's a week after Ethan played with Rogerio for us at the barn. They were working relentlessly on their music. Grace and I barely see them. They took over the barn. We had to move all the animals to a barn farther from the house. The only good thing about them playing all the time and never seeing them. Is that now we can always hear music every time we step out of the house to do work. And the majority of time, it sounded amazing.

Today, Daniel came again to pick up Wyatt. I watched from the porch as Daniel's truck pulled out of the driveway. He was taking Wyatt with him for another escapade in town. Wyatt left to town to drink with Daniel and his broken leg.

I was tending to the chickens when my phone buzzed. It was Maggie. I answered, and her voice immediately set me on edge.

"Savannah, I just saw Wyatt and Daniel getting into Mr. Hartman's office. I know you took Wyatt there before... I thought you should know they were back there again. Did you know he was going there?"

My stomach twisted with unease. "No I didn't... Did Wyatt look upset or anything?"

"No, just serious. I don't know, Sav, but it seems suspicious. I wanted to give you a heads up."

"Thanks, Mags. I appreciate you looking out for me." I ended the call, my mind racing. What the hell is going on with Wyatt? What could he possibly be talking with Mr. Hartman about?

I spent the rest of the afternoon racking my brain trying to think what kind of trouble Wyatt could be in. Before I could ruminate further, Grace barreled out the front door. Something was clutched in her hand. "Savannah! Savannah, you'll never guess what just happened!" She's happy, shining with excitement.

She thrusted a piece of paper into my hand. "It's from the bank. They've approved our loan. We're gonna be able to pay the bills!"

I stared at the letter, my heart beating fast in my chest. It was true. There, in black and white, was the promise of a future, of the second chance at the life we'd always dreamed of.

I let out a whoop of joy, grabbing Grace in a hug.

"We did it, Gracie," I whispered, my eyes stinging with tears. "We fucking did it. At least for now we have good news!"

She nodded, her own eyes bright with tears. "I know. I can't believe it. After everything we've been through, all the struggles and the setbacks... we're gonna be okay, Sav. We're gonna make it."

I hugged her tight, my heart so full it felt like it might burst. And then I heard a throat clear behind us, and I turned to see Wyatt standing there, a soft smile on his face.

"Congratulations, you two," he said, his voice warm with pride. "You deserve this, more than anyone I know." Wyatt was back...

I swallowed hard, my eyes locking with his. "You back? Yeah... Can you believe it? We got it and I have no idea how... Mr. Peters from the bank told me flat out I would not get it... I did. Well, I'm not complaining...."

Grace cleared her throat, and the moment was broken. "Well, I don't know about you two, but I think this calls for a celebration. How about we head into town, and grab a drink at the Rusty Spur? I can get Ethan and Rogerio to come with us..."

Wyatt grinned, his eyes still on mine. "Sounds perfect. What do you say, Sav? You up for a night out?"

A night out with Wyatt, the boys, and Grace. Drinking and dancing and letting loose?

"Yeah," I said. "Yeah, I'm up for it. Let's celebrate, cowboy. Can your leg stand the night out? Are you not tired? You just got back from town... We can leave it for tomorrow?"
