FALSE CONFESSION - Chapter 31: Drifting.

────── ⋆⋅✦⋅⋆ ──────

SATURDAY, XX NOV

At the bus stop, Runa is sewing diligently. Never once she looks up no matter how chilly it was when the morning breeze brushed against her face. In response, she would just nuzzle half her face into the muffler around her neck. She kept on sewing one patch (their sewing club logo) after another onto the handkerchief they'd sell in December. In her mind, she will only look up once her phone in the padded pocket rung.

That was what she had intended mentally, then her head raised in instant as soon as she heard familiar voices speaking not far from her. Afraid of getting recognized, Runa hid her face back into the comfort of her muffler-while her eyes followed their leaving silhouettes. Watching Yewon and Hoseok talking excitedly sent a pang to her heart. Runa wonders, if her friendship with Yewon will stay the same after this. She has been keeping distance from her and she knew Yewon understood it was because of Jimin, but did Yewon know... it was also because of what she planned to do to her impulsively?

Runa genuinely ponders... if Taehyung or Hoseok told her about the poster. Runa shook her head, immediately dismissing the thoughts when she herself didn't dare imagine Yewon's reaction at her betrayal.

"Auch." Runa accidentally stabbed herself with the sewing needle. As she watches little droplets of blood popping out from the tiny wound, no matter how tiny, it still comes out. Just as her secret. Taehyung knew. Hoseok and Yoongi must have known she was the poster's sender too, by now. It is only a matter of time before Yewon and everyone in school learns of her dark side.

She regretted doing it but was ashamed to reveal the truth to Yewon. As long as she could, Runa wanted to hide this truth till her grave.
Runa wrapped her tiny wound with the band-aid. She heaved out heavily. Her tiny wound would never leave a scar on her finger. It will heal with time. It definitely will. But... what about a wounded heart? Often, they left scars, even after they healed. And most of the time, they take longer to heal...

Ring!

Her heart almost jumped out of her ribcage. Thankfully she didn't stab another finger this time. Taking out the phone, she sees a message notification from Jimin popping up on the lock screen. He said he saw her across the road and he asked whether he should come to her or will she come to him? Reading the need of him to ask even now, hurts Runa. She has always been the one to go to him. And today should be her last.

Runa packs her things then cross the road when the pedestrian light turns green. And she approached Jimin with a bitter smile.

"I'm sorry." Jimin spoke after the waiter left with their orders. Runa glanced up at him and then to her half full glass of water. She felt the urge to empty the glass right now but she held in.

"What are you apologizing for?" she asked flatly. Acting as if she didn't care, yet she actually did.

Jimin fell quiet. He looked down at his hands on his lap in embarrassment.

"For..." he glanced up and was nervous when he saw her looking at him.

Runa didn't deserve a half-hearted apology. Jimin wanted to hold her hand and kneel down to apologize to her but he also felt that he shouldn't. Because it would look like there is a second chance for them while there isn't. He was left with two options before: Leave her or learn to love her. And he was too late for the latter. Moreover, the way she is looking at him now has drastically changed from when he said yes to her confession in their classroom.
