-"I don't know how many times I have to tell you, dad. I don't want to be up there watching her die, and listening to the church pray and sing over her. I just can't do it."
"She would want you here, Kacie."
I sighed as I sat down on a bench in the store that I was in with Kha, "I will go see my mother when those people aren't there."
"Those people?" He sounded taken aback. "Little girl this is your church."
"Like I said, I will not be going up there in that sad and creepy environment. I will see my mother when I decide to see her now leave me alone." I scrunched my face up and hung up the phone.
My father was really starting to piss me off.
My mother was obviously in the hospital dying but members from the church would be at the hospital during the day praying and singing hymnals over her and it was honestly creepy.
Then my family would just be around the bed crying as they sung and prayed, and her monitors made all kinds of unnecessary noise.
I didn't like that atmosphere so I would always go talk to her late at night. Visiting hours would be over but her night nurse always let me in.
"This man has been pissing me the hell off lately. I cannot take it anymore." I got up from the bench that I was sitting on and walked over to Kha who was looking at necklaces.
"It'll pass." Kha shrugged.
I rolled my eyes, "Very helpful."
"I'm stressed out. We were supposed to be coming here to help me get my mind off of things by buying gifts but now I'm stressing about gifts. Like what the fuck do boys like?" I frowned.
We were currently at the mall in Macy's trying to buy Christmas gifts. Kha knew exactly what he was getting Remi but I had no idea what to get Neno. Then I also had to buy Kha's little sisters, Yanni and Hallie something too.
"You don't really owe him much since y'all not locked in for real yet. Just get him something simple like some clothes. If you wanna spend a lil' sum, we can run to foot locker."
"Can we go there please?"
"Yeah, come on." Kha picked up his bags of things that he already bought as we walked out of the store, heading to the next one.
I knew you couldn't go wrong with getting shoes I just had to pick the right ones. I was unsure if I wanted to get him everyday shoes or the basketball shoes that he had been talking my ear off about.
We walked into foot locker and I looked around seeing that their shoe collection was lacking. I remember back in the day I used to want almost everything out of foot locker. Now everything just looked eh.
"Welcome to Foot Locker, can I help you find anything?" I looked over at the man who was speaking to me.
He was a fine young man. He had tattoos covering both of his arms and his neck, a stud earring in one ear, and he had dreads that perfectly stopped right at his shoulders.
