"So you're just up and leaving?"
"Pretty much." I shrugged and packed up my belongings into my suitcase, making sure that I had all of my essentials as my father stood in my doorway.
"This is stupid, Kacie." He ran his hand over his head.
"I need a break from you and your dictatorship, sorry. I am grown now, daddy."
My eighteenth birthday finally came around and after spending all of my night reflecting I decided that I would be leaving my father's house. I didn't know for exactly how long but at least a week. I needed a break from him.
The house carried a bad spirit now that my mother was gone. My dad was always drunk, the place always smelling like liquor, and he was an extremely bad drunk. He got all emotional and angry.
"So where you gone go, hm? With Dione?" He asked dramatically, referring to my grandmother.
"Don't worry about it."
I continued packing the last of my belongings into my pink glittery suitcase, bending down to grab my shower caddy off of the floor.
"Fine, I remember how I felt when I had just turned eighteen. It's nothing like that freshly grown feeling, feel like you can conquer anything," He sighed loudly and looked at me. "I'll give you a week before I come out looking for you. And you better still be going to school and staying on top of your grades."
"Who's to say I'll be back in a week?" I raised an eyebrow.
"Happy birthday, Kacie." He looked at me with an aggravated look before turning on his heels, going back to his room.
I looked in my vanity mirror and applied a layer of lip plumping lip gloss onto my lips, fluffing my freshly down hair. I looked amazing and I knew that Neno would damn near pass out when he saw me. So as the time passed for him to be picking me up I grew more and more excited.
I grabbed my phone, taking loads of pictures and videos before opening my message thread for the first time all morning.
