I sat in Child Development class with my head down, trying my hardest to fight the sleep that was attempting to overpower me. Our teacher was introducing an upcoming project but she was just talking and talking, and her voice was putting me to sleep.
"I know many of you have been waiting for this project so I figured I'd do it before we got too close to the final and had to focus on that," Our teacher, Ms. Wilcox spoke.
Out of curiosity to what the project may be I raised my head, seeing that she was holding a baby doll along with a bottle. I instantly grew excited because when I started taking Child Development the fake baby project was the thing I was most excited for.
"I saved up a lot of money to buy you all these expensive ass babies so please treat them with care and as if they are real," She sighed before continuing. "I saved a lot but not quite enough for me to buy everyone an individual baby, so I did assign you all a partner."
I immediately rolled my eyes mentally at the word 'partner' because I absolutely hated having partners for anything. It was even worse in this class because I didn't talk to anyone in the class.
Khayri was in the class but our friendship had obviously drifted apart despite his moment of weakness in the hallway and him sending me money for my birthday. Things were still not the same although we didn't hate or dislike one another.
"When I call your name go sit next to your partner and you will both be assigned a baby that you will name and co parent." Ms. Wilcox stated and grabbed her clipboard.
She then began naming the pairs, my heart beating as I waited for her to call my name. I didn't know what would be worse. Being paired with somebody random or being paired with an old friend.
"And lastly group seven, Khayri and Kacie." She called with a slight smile.
I didn't have to move to sit next to my partner because we were already sitting next to one another. Despite our differences in our friendship, we still sat in our unassigned yet assigned seats. We both didn't care that much to completely change seats.
"Like stated before, treat this baby like an actual child because I can tell whether or not you have or haven't been doing so.."
She continued, "You will have the baby for a total of two weeks. Each partner should rotate days or however you all choose to do so but it should be distributed evenly. And at the end of the project you will make a presentation discussing how it went."
