Chapter 11: Undeniable pull

Scarlett's POV

Knight Industries Limited.

I sighed as I stood before the fifty one storeys high building.

As much as I wished to avoid coming here, I had to...because now this seems like the only way to catch a glance of my brother...who seems to be avoiding our phone calls ever since Vienna left him and unfortunately their wedding got called off.

Well, let me give you a little context, about two week back when Vienna was still here, Ryan announced, out of the blue, that they have decided to get married.

We all were so happy for them...and even though deep down I was really upset because David has been avoiding me like some plague after the whole 'sneak out party and our unnecessary argument' incident, but yet this announcement somehow managed to uplift my mood...for at least one of us siblings was finally getting the happiness that he deserves.

But alas, turns out it's as if we Knight siblings are somehow cursed to never find our happy ending, and their wedding got called off.

Though I don't know what went wrong between them, one day we were preparing for their big day and then the next thing that we knew was Vienna had left and their wedding got called off, and David was the one who informed us all of this, because apparently Ryan had vanished into thin air too.

Just a day before their supposed wedding, everything seemed to be going so smooth but the next morning we were informed about this dreadful news, which made me wonder that what was it that changed between them just in the span a one night...one single night!?

My mother and sisters even called David every now and then, to ask if Ryan was okay and if he was ready to see us all, but the only answer that they got from him was that Ryan was busy and cannot answer our calls or see us at the moment. 

And well, it's not like my mother or sisters didn't try to reach Ryan by visiting him in his office, they did, but got turned down every time with different excuses by his assistant.

But it was only I, who never called up David to ask about my brother's whereabouts and neither did I dare to visit Ryan's office, because I didn't want to run into David...because honestly things have gotten quite awkward between us ever since that night, after our argument and also next the morning after that when he started avoiding me.

But anyways, back to the reason why I am here today...I'm here in the hopes that I would get to see my brother, honestly I'm worried about him and just want to make sure that he's fine, which is why I am even willing to take the risk of running into David as he works in the same building as well.

I went straight up to the floor where I know Ryan's office is and walked upto the reception.

"Hey! I would like to meet Mr. Ryan Knight" I said to the lady sitting behind the reception.

"May I know your name? Miss" The lady asked, professionally.

"Scarlett Knight, I'm his sister" I replied.

"Oh. I'm sorry, ma'am, but you can't meet him" The lady said with an apologetic look on her face.

"What do you mean I can't? He's in his office right?" I asked.

"No, he isn't, ma'am. He's currently in the conference room with the board of directors, the meeting has just begun and I'm afraid that it'll go on for quite a while now" She replied.

"Oh. It's alright, I'll just wait in his office" I said, ready to walk towards his office when the receptionist stopped me.

"I'm afraid you can't, ma'am. Mr. Knight is running on a very busy schedule and we have strict instructions that he doesn't wants to see anybody without prior appointments" The lady said as I looked at her in disbelief.
