Forever My Girl

Chapter 3:

*Monday Morning*

It was bright and early, the sun shined through Hailey's curtains nearly blinding her eyes, she got up and out of bed, she made her she headed to the bathroom and showered. She got dressed, and after she had breakfast in the car and headed straight to her new job. Upon arriving she parked her car and headed inside the plaza, she scanned her ID and headed upstairs. She put on her badge and her gun it's in slot and headed to the conference room. "Good morning everyone, I would like to introduce the newest member of our team, special agent Hailey Upton, she's from Chicago intelligence unit. She is the new lead of this team and she's got way more experience than any one of you in this room, I'm not trying to make it sound like she's better than any of you but I expect all of you to listen to her and stand by her side. Hailey the floor is yours".

All eyes were on Hailey, Hailey "hi I'm Hailey and I'm ready thrilled to be here, I've come along way so let's work together, solve cases and keep our city safe", they all have Hailey a round of applause, that's when the office was flooded with cases. "You've got a couple of cases, you decide on which cases to keep and which cases to pass on to another unit, you make the decisions, so I'll leave you to it", Hailey was used to paperwork and case files but not this many, the office was overflowing with them. She looked through a few of them, one pile was cases to be cases and the other pile was for the cases they would be keeping to investigate themselves. One case completely stood out to her, it was a sex trafficking case involving young girls, some girls were even underage, and Hailey disliked it, she took the file bringing into the conference room, "alright we're flying to Verona New York, we've got a sex trafficking case, the victims so far are young girls, most of them underage. Whoever we are looking for knows what they are doing, knows how to keep themselves clean and out of camera views, let's check for any missing vehicles that could have been used to get these kids around, the person we are looking for had some sort of recent confrontation with the victim, the latest victim, her name is Avery and she may be his biological daughter", "um Hailey this is live right now", Hailey "is that his house, and is that. Oh my gosh, poor kid", "what do we do", Hailey "have our analyst trace the location, now. Track that down, find that location right now", Hailey watched in horror as he tied her up and started to brutally beat her, Hailey "someone get me a damn pin on that location already, he's gonna beat her to death", "the location is pinning right here", Hailey "everyone get suited up, everyone to the location now", Hailey and her new team rallied together, got in their cars and drove to the pinned location to rescue Avery along with the other girls being held captive. They pulled up to the warehouse, Hailey "we need to split up, I know it's risky but that's the only way we are going to rescue each and every one of those girls, we have our radios, we use them, navigate each other through the warehouse, we save the girls and call medics right away, let's go. Spread out", Hailey and the rest of them spread out, Hailey ran downstairs and pointed her gun at every corner she came across, Hailey "Avery. Sweetie I'm here to save you", someone came behind Hailey knocking her to the ground, and nearly bashing her head into the wall, Hailey wrestled with him, tackling him to the floor and knocking him out, Hailey picked her gun back up, caught her breath and continued down the stairs, the door was closed, she opened it and closed it behind her. Found Avery strapped to the chair and unconscious, Hailey "no, no no. Sweetie I need you to stay with me, Avery stay with me, Avery. Come on stay with me", Hailey untied her hands, and feet, she put her gun in its holder and carried the girl upstairs and out of the warehouse, she laid her on the ground, Hailey "this is special agent Upton, I'm with the New York FBI, I need a medic, I've got a child, she's eleven years old, she needs medical attention right now", Hailey held her hand, waiting for the ambulance to show up, multiple medical assistance arrived on the scene, as Hailey's team bought out more victims, "ride with her", Hailey "are you sure", "yeah", Hailey climbed in the ambulance with Avery and rode with her to the hospital. "Hailey", Hailey "I know I was supposed to report back to the office but I wanted to ride with her, she was all alone and I just wanted to make sure she was OK", "great work Upton, I am surprisingly impressed with the way you handled the situation, the way you rallied your team to separate. You saved every one of the girls, great work agent Hailey", Hailey was so surprised by her performance and she was appreciated for her hard work. Hailey "can I please talk to her, I don't want to ask her anything, I just wanna make sure that she's okay", "sure. The plane will take off once you are on board", Hailey went into the hospital room, Hailey "hey sweetie", Avery "hi", Hailey "how are you feeling", Avery "better, thanks to you. You saved my life", Hailey "and I would do it again. I will be back", Hailey ran to the front of the hospital, the plane was waiting. "Hailey climb on board", Hailey "agent Peters I'm putting you in charge, I'm not leaving just yet", "how come", Hailey "New York is my fresh start and I'm loving it. But I wanna be Avery's fresh start", "not even a week on the job and you're already making a difference. You let me know if you need transportation back to New York City", Hailey "I will".

Hailey "you know you are really brave for being able to keep yourself alive", Avery "Hailey why did you stay, the rest of your team left", Hailey "I know. I wanted to be here with you, make sure you were okay", Avery "others would just leave me, provably let me die. But you didn't, you're different", Hailey "I wanna be there for you, I stood here because I wanna take you into my care", Avery "but why are you doing this for me", Hailey "I'm new here too, my last job was at police detective at Chicago but I moved here for a new start. A new life, and that's what I wanna give you, because you deserve it. A chance to be a child and life a normal life, I wanna make silly memories with you, and I want to congratulate you for every one of your accomplishments. As long as that's okay with you", "agent Upton", Hailey "I thought I told you I was staying", "I know but I called in a few favors, you can take her back to your house, while the investigation is ongoing we want to take the time to meet with the social worker about adopting her", Hailey "who did you call", "a few friends, I made some calls", Hailey "thank you". Once it was okay for Avery to be discharged from the hospital, they headed on the plane back to the city. Hailey took a cab home, Avery "this is where you live", Hailey "yeah, how about we go upstairs and I could order us some pizza", Avery "okay", Hailey "don't be shy. It's okay, um would you like to take a shower, I've got two bathrooms", Avery "can I please take one down here as long as you stay down here", Hailey "I'm not going anywhere", Hailey walked her to the bathroom, Hailey "there are towels on this rack, soap in the bathroom, and if you need anything else just call me", Avery "okay. Wait can you leave the door open, please", Hailey "of course, why don't you climb in and pass me your clothes through the curtains, I'll put them to wash", Avery "okay", while Hailey ordered the pizza, she just watched tv. Avery "Hailey I need clothes", Hailey "I'll be right there", Hailey quickly grabbed one of her shirts, Hailey "would this be okay", Avery "yeah. Can I watch cartoons", she asked as Hailey pulled her shirt over her, Hailey "yeah", the doorbell went off. Hailey got the pizza and paid the delivery guy, Hailey "how many slices would you like", Avery "I think two is okay", Hailey "I got you a juice is that okay for your drink", Avery "yeah", while they ate, Avery watched the cartoons on tv and Hailey checked some work emails. Hailey cleaned up the bit of the mess, Hailey "I can show you to the room you're staying in", Avery "can I please sleep with you? I'm scared to sleep alone", Hailey "sure, come on", Hailey put some more cartoons on as they entered the room and she quickly changed into her pajamas. They climbed into the bed, and headed to bed. In the middle of the night Hailey woke up to crying, Hailey tiptoed downstairs, Hailey "are you okay", Avery "I keep thinking they're coming for me", Hailey "they're not baby", Hailey sat on the couch, Hailey then laid down, Hailey "come here sunshine", Avery laid in front of Hailey, Hailey wrapped her arms around her, the two of them fell asleep.
