Jay woke up to an unsettling noise, he turned to face Hailey, she was still asleep, he got up and carefully tiptoed through the hallway to go to Avery's room, he turned the door knob opening the door to peek into her room, but she was also asleep, he heard the noise once again. He carefully went down the stairs as quietly as he could and started to check but no one was there, and when he heard the noise again he finally realized that it was coming from the patio upstairs, and he went upstairs, before he could step on the patio he saw a man standing there, he wore a ski mask so his face was covered but Jay knew they were in danger as he looked down to see a knife in the man's hand, the man charged at him, but he used his force to push the man over and locked the door so he couldn't enter the apartment. Jay tiptoed to Avery's room, Jay "baby I need you to come with me", Avery "what's going on", she said with a tired look on her face, Jay picked her up and then went to the other room to wake Hailey. Jay "babe. Babe", Hailey "what time is it and what are you doing", Jay "we've gotta hide, there's a man on the patio", Hailey "what", Jay "shh be quiet or else he'll hear us", Jay instructed Hailey and Avery to go to the closet. Hailey "what the hell you doing", Jay "protecting the two of you", Hailey "you're gonna get yourself killed", Jay "I don't care. Stay in here and don't come out", Hailey "Jay please don't do this", Jay kissed Hailey and then shut the door. Hailey sat on the closet floor, and Avery was between her legs, Jay grabbed his gun and started to walk up the stairs again, the man was banging on the door, Jay yelled at him instructing him to leave the property or else he would call the police. Things became a bit out of control, Jay opened the door to cuff the man to escort him back to the fire escape but he got stabbed in the process. The man left like he hadn't done anything but Jay told him not you even return, and he promised he wouldn't since Jay was a detective and Hailey an FBI agent. Hailey "stay here honey", Hailey left the closet, and found at the top of the stairs holding his wound, Hailey "babe", Jay "I'm okay, it just poked me", Hailey took off her shirt and pressed it against his wound, Avery "is he okay", Hailey "he's gonna be fine baby, not I need you to go to my room and grab my phone off the nightstand", Avery went to the room and grabbed Hailey's phone, Hailey "good girl, I need you to hold this here", Avery "not uh", Hailey "baby please", Avery pressed her hands on the shirt that was stopping Jay from bleeding out. Hailey dialed emergency services, Hailey "yes my husband was stabbed and I need medical attention right away, no I didn't hit a major artery but he needs medical attention", "okay. Help is on the way", Hailey "Jay please stay with me", a few minutes passed and the ambulance finally arrived. The both of them climbed in the ambulance right by Jay's side, they took him to the nearest hospital. Avery "is he gonna be OK", she asked Hailey who was too scared to speak, Hailey "I'm hoping that he's gonna be OK", Avery "is any of this my fault", Hailey looked at her daughter too stunned to speak, Hailey "baby why would this be your fault? None of this is on you cutie pie, he risked his life to save the both of us. This is no one's fault, don't ever pin the blame on yourself for something like this", Avery "I just thought it could have my fault", Hailey "it's not your fault princess, people get hurt. And that's okay", "Ms Halstead", Hailey "is he okay", "yeah. He's fine, just gave him a few stitches and some medication for the pain but he should be out of here in no time", Hailey "can we see him", "yeah. Right this way", Avery sat down while Hailey went over to his bed, sitting beside him.
