Kataleya sat in the bed holding onto her now empty stomach asleep as Dejhari watched her from across the room. He wouldn't take his eyes off of her as she slept peacefully. He was so freaked out by the last few days that he couldn't do anything but watch her to make sure she was ok and still breathing.
He couldn't get the site of her unconscious body out of his mind. He thought that the pregnancy was going well. He blamed himself for not being around. He blamed himself for being so neglectful towards her when he promised that he would be there every step.
"Kataleya!" Her mom yelled as Kat laid in the bed unconscious. She couldn't believe her daughter was going through so much just trying to bring a child into this world. It hurt her to see her so helpless.
"Ma'am, we need you to leave the room." The nurse said trying to assist her out of the room. Denise was trying to stay in the room as the doctors and nurses moved around the room preparing to remove the baby from Kat's womb. "We're working on her."
"That's my daughter!" She yelled. "I'm not leaving!"
"Patrice! Let her stay! Whatever! We need to get this baby out of here right now before we lose both!" The doctor yelled at the Nurse. "Ma'am we just need you to stop screaming so we can help your child."
Denise cried as Dejhari stood across the room staring at the scene in disbelief. He rubbed Kataleya's temple as she laid there completely out of it. The doctor applied the iodine to Kataleya's stomach and began the procedure. Dejhari leaned down and kissed her forehead as he rubbed her face.
"It's ok baby, I'm here." He whispered to her as he looked over her face. He was so afraid that she wouldn't come back from the state she was in. He didn't see how they got where they were. She was fine earlier that day in the mall. It was confusing for him. "Please baby, don't leave me. Fight for us."
The surgery was hard on Kataleya's body and it was tough for her even though she was unconscious the whole time. Dejhari watched as the doctor pulled his son up and eyed the condition that he was in. He didn't cry, he didn't make one noise. "What's going on?" Dejhari asked. "Why he not making noise?"
"We're doing everything we can for her and the baby. Just give us a second." The doctor said as they took his son away and started working on him. He stood back in fear as Denise stood behind the doctors who worked on the baby. She continued to cry as she looked back and forth between Kataleya and her grandson.
"Doc, please. I'll pay whatever. Just please don't let my son die." Dejhari said looking at the doctor with hopeful eyes as he held onto Kataleya's hand.
Dejhari sat there with tears in his eyes as he cried. He was thankful that his son had made it but things were still unclear for Kataleya. The doctor had her on the ventilator due to her being unresponsive.
"Are you going over to see Kayon?" Denise asked walking into the room, I furrowed my eyebrows.
"Kayon? That's not his name." Dejhari said shaking his head. He rubbed his hand down his face. He looked drained. His eyes were red, his hair was all over the place, and he had stains on his shirt from his son. "I'm waiting for Kat to wake up so we can name him together. She's gonna wake up tonight. I can feel it."
