Chapter 34: Escape

Keanu knocked on his fathers study.

The door opened and the elder stared at them. "Yes?"

"Can we come in?"

Xenon side-eyed Onyx. "Only you can come in. Leave the girl out."

Onyx looked up at Keanu with pleading eyes.

He caressed the side of her face. "I'll be out soon." He placed his forehead on hers. "Don't worry."

She nodded and stepped back.

Keanu entered the room shutting the door behind him. He sat on the chair in front of his fathers desk.

Xenon gracefully sat behind the desk and stared at him with expectant eyes.

"I have some questions."

"Ask."

Keanu cleared his throat. "So...This military base. Who's supposed to be the head of it."

Xenon raised an eyebrow. "Well, according to the last meeting it was supposed to be you."

"Okay...So I can access the base, and train recruits."

Xenon was silent for a moment. "Well there's no point now. War is coming in a couple of days, there's not enough time."

"But I should at least access the base and grab weapons."

"No."

"Why not?"

"Because it's pointless."

'Why?"

"Because they don't know how to use them."

Keanu rolled his eyes. "I'm sure they at least know how to swing a sword. We need-"

"I said no." Xenon growled. 

Keanu leaned forward. "Why."

Xenon leaned back. "What's the real reason you're here."

Keanu sat back staring at his father, eyes flashing. "The little girl. Why'd you send her out the day Onyx was captured."

"I didn't."

"You're lying."

"I'm not."

"Yes you are. The little girl told me you sent her."

"You'll believe that thing over your own father?"

"Yes."

Xenon was silent for a while. 

Keanu took the blue vial out of his pocket and placed it on the desk, his voice cold. "What's this?"

His father stared at the vial then looked up at him. His eyes turned cold, and his expression hardened. "Where did you get that?"

"Where do you think?"

As quick as lightning his father grabbed the collar of his shirt and pulled him forward. "Where did you get that?!"

Keanu smiled a sickening smile. "The base."

His fathers eyes dilated and Keanu swiped his fathers hand off his shirt. He grabbed his fathers neck in one quick movement and pulled him from behind the desk, slamming him on the floor. 

"You lied to me." he growled. "I don't like liars."

His father smiled. "You're just like your mother."

Keanu let his guard down for a moment confused. What did his father mean by that? Xenon took the opportunity and kicked Keanu off of him scurrying back. "I don't want to fight you Keanu. Let's talk."
