CHAPTER8|WYATT FORD
Showing up to Avery's party was a big mistake. I had wanted to make her night by surprising her but when she noticed I was here she avoided me and drank a bunch of martini's and shots like she was an alcoholic. If I knew I stressed her out this much when I was around I would've tried fixing it sooner. I never wanted to be the person she had to watch out for because she knew nothing good would come from being around me
It's now the next day and everyone's fine after the shooting that went down. When it happened I was completely running around frantically looking for her. She had gone missing from the bar when it happened. Jaxon found Quinn and Estella hiding under the tables they were dancing on but I couldn't spot Avery anywhere
My heart completely stopped when she was nowhere to be found. Maybe she had gotten out safe. Or maybe she was running around in this huge crowd shaking and crying looking for us. But when Jaxon dragged me out of the club with the girls I was so close to losing my mind until I got a text from Dorian saying she was safe
She's with him
A part of me was relieved she was fine but I also felt my blood boil at the thought of them together. What if he was touching her and she enjoyed it. I swear to god if his hands were on her how mine should be on her he'd be in for it. She's mine
"Avery's safe but right now we should get to our hotel." I announced putting my phone into my pocket before walking off towards the parking lot
Dorian Zephyr. One of the most dangerous men I know. He may be skilled and a killer but I most certainly would become those two traits in a millisecond if he was fucking with my woman. Plus we made a deal. And I'll break it the second he screws with me. I'll fight in that war if it meant I could slit his throat
We hop into the car in silence,"I don't know what went down tonight but that was weird. Who would want to kill innocent people?. Especially just a group of writers." Jaxon asked as he drove
I shook my head as I looked at all of the tall buildings we passed. His question ran through my mind the entire ride. No one would want to kill book writers. I mean what could they have possibly done wrong. But the only reason I could think they would want to take an innocent life is because one of those innocent book writers is my girlfriend
Well shit. I was trouble
As soon as we got inside of our separate rooms I sat on my bed and called Dorian. After a few rings he finally picked up. I wanted to start off with a simple threat but I had better things than to be going head to head with this idiot
"Have you dropped her off safely?."
I'm sure he did but I just wanted to check. If she would've gotten hurt tonight I wouldn't know what to do. She doesn't know what I'm into and I want it to stay like that until I'm ready to tell her. I'm sure she'll take the news just fine because her best friend was literally a serial killer but she would spazz about the arranged marriage
That's something I don't want her to know about
"She is safe. But we have a problem," he sighed."The Bridges are after her. They know that she's your girlfriend and won't stop until she's dead."
Squeezing the phone I immediately stand up and pace the room. The Bridges want to kill her because I'm marrying their daughter and they don't want any scandals happening. If they touch a hair on Avery they won't have a daughter and that's a promise
"What do we do?."
He doesn't say anything for a minute or two before finally speaking."Tell them that you guys have broken up and she's just a friend. Make them believe it,Wyatt." he replied before hanging up
The line went dead as I sat there. If I didn't do this I would get her killed and if she died I'd kill those bastards if that meant I had to fight war after war for doing so. My father never liked me with Avery either. He said she was a nobody and just wanted me for my money. Little did he know she didn't even care about the money
All I know is if he was in on this I'd kill him too. I'd become the boss with the snap of my finger
....
"So how was LA?." Harper asked as she took a bite out of her pasta
I decided to take her on a date as soon as I got off of the plane. Her red curly hair was up in a messy bun and two strands fell in her face. A smile was placed on her face the entire time. Not once did it slip and it slapped me in the face
God she's so enchanting
"It was deafening. But you should know how it went. Correct?."
Her eyes furrowed out of confusion. Maybe she was pretending to not know what had happened. She had to know. This information shouldn't be new to her; she had to be a part of it. I wasn't falling for it
Sitting her fork down she stops eating before leaning onto the table,"What are you talking about?,"she asked."And please just give me the short answer."
I almost laugh at how grave she is now. I'm guessing she doesn't like when people accuse her of things because she seems pretty on edge right now. Her smile was gone and she didn't look away from me not once
"There was a shooting that occurred at my.."I bit my tongue before I said the wrong thing."My friend's first book signing party. And it puts all of my friends in danger."
A scoff escaped her lips before she sat back in her chair,"That has nothing to do with me. So you can go and accuse someone else."
"Miss.Bridges, the information I got had something to do with your family. They are trying to kill her but I'm sure you already know about this." I was so keen to know what she'd reply back with
The look on her face tells me she's about to boil over after another accusation. My lips tip up as she crosses her leg. Her dress slightly rose and I'd be lying if I said it didn't turn me on. Just one slight movement she made aroused me. Just a little though
Grabbing her purse she gets up from the table before placing cash down and turning to look for the server,"If you think for one second that I'm capable of hurting anyone you're just as pathetic as my parents." She muttered
Without thinking I grabbed her hand and pulled her down back into her seat. Her neck snapped to me and within seconds I noticed annoyance. Like she was sick and tired of something,"And why are they pathetic to you?." I asked. I wanted to know what she thought of her parents
Something about Harper is drawing me to her. I don't want to be closer to her than I already am forced to be but not knowing her desires or what she hates or even her childhood is killing me. It's a dangerous game for me. Wanting to get to know every detail about her is bad. Especially since I have a girlfriend
Setting her purse back down she avoids eye contact with me for a minute before glancing at me and looking away again. The small glimpse of her blue green eyes made me imagine the waters in Bora Bora. Her eyes looked like a tide with a hint of seaweed in them, "They are pathetic because they don't know not one thing about me and only care about themselves. That's why they are pathetic and arrogant assholes. And they are just like you. Blaming me for things." Is all she admitted
I could tell she was being truthful. It was something about the way she chewed on the bottom of her lip to keep the emotions from pouring out of her with tears and not words. Nodding my head I take another sip of my drink before waving the server over. I paid for our meal and than gave her all of my attention
When I looked back at her she was already gazing at me. My god
"Anyway, I'm gonna take you back home to your brilliant but ancient parents so they don't decide to blow up my place for no reason." I grinned before getting up from the table at the exact same time she did
I stick my hand out but she completely ignores it and instead walks past me showing herself out. I deserved it. But I can't afford to actually want her. She is already my type in looks and showing her personality and true self will only make it worse for me
From here on out I need to be ruthless to Harper and in general. If I'm going to be taking over this business I have to show them just how crazy I could be
