"Layla, you awake?" I hear a voice saying my name with a gentle hand shaking my shoulders a bit to wake me up. The voice was nice, comforting, I wanted them to keep saying my name. But they kept trying to wake me up, for what? Wait-
Oh!
I blink my eyes open to see Jayre leaning over me, for a second I just stare at his blurry figure with half lidded eyes. But then I finally gain my senses back and sit up straight. "Oh, sorry, did I sleep?" I ask in a sluggish voice to which he just smirks.
"Yep, I think you drooled a bit too." Color immediately rushes up to my face. Oh gods, I drooled in my sleep pretty often, I just thought this time maybe I wouldn't. I reach a thumb up to the corner of my mouth but I feel nothing but soft skin. I glare at Jayre, but he just chuckles and shakes his head.
"Just kidding with you Layla, but we're at the stop now so I had to wake you up." he says. Oh, completely forgot we were on a bus in the first place. It's like everything and everyone just turns into nothing when I start up an argument with Jayre. Weird.
"Oh, alright." I sigh and start to close up my bags. Me and Jayre wait for a bit for the aisle to clear up before exiting the bus. Not even a second later, Wacky and Zander bounded up to me.
"Layla! Finally, I swear you're always one of the last ones to get off a bus." Wacky sighs as Zander and I laugh.
"Yeah, well, she is the princess of basically the whole school. She always needs a grand entrance." Zander teases and I scrunch my nose up at him before laughing again. After a while, the students were given permission to explore the area for a bit, which means me, Wacky and Zander are just gonna run on the beach or swim in the ocean.
"Layla! Hurry up in there!" Wacky yells as I put on my bathing suit. Was it really my fault swim suits were so complicated to put on?
"Hold on! Few more minutes!" I scream right back before finally getting it on. I heave a sigh, taking in my reflection before stepping out.
Zander waits, leaning against a wall while Wacky looks at me with an annoyed look and crossed arms. "You took like thirty minutes." he sighs and I shrug.
"Come on! Let's just go get to the beach already, I'm sure some of the others are already there." I say which Wacky just responds by rolling his eyes and walking off, beckoning me and Zander to follow.
We start walking along the sand, sandals off, barefoot when Zander clears his throat. I look up at him, tilting my head a bit. "You look nice Layla." he says in a rough tone while his eyes are casted on the sand.
Just then a voice rings out from behind us. "Just nice. Is that seriously the best you can do Leonardo?" That was Jayre's voice... me and Zander turn around to see Jayre with his friends. I never really cared for them, unlike Jayre, they were pretty stupid and only excelled in sports.
I sigh, and Zander tenses beside me while Wacky stopes in his tracks to go back to us. "What's going on?" he asks with a concerned look.
"Oh, just the usual, jerks being jerks." I say before pulling Zander's arm and marching up beside Wacky. I look back to see Jayre with a half annoyed, half hurt look on his face before turning around and walking the other way. Why do I feel guilty all of a sudden. I did nothing wrong, right?
Once we got to the water, Wacky immediately ran to meet it, hands in the air while laughing happily. Zander and I laughed at the sight before looking at each other. "Race?" he asks and I sigh dramatically.
"Game on." I say in barely a whisper before taking off, leaving him in the dust. What can I say? I like winning. Sorry not sorry!
I hear Zander scream "Cheater!" behind me, but I don't care. I was born to win! Even if it was just a childish race to the water.
But even with all this laughter and joy, why do I still feel like I messed up earlier. Earlier when I said what I said about...
Jayre.
