I don't know what's going on, but I'm pretty sure it was getting intense.

The stadium was going wild, Jayre and Zander weren't getting even a second off the court, everyone was leaning forward, sweaty, voice scratchy from screaming so much. And I just don't know what was happening!

I watched as Jayre got the ball, and dribbled across the court. He shot the ball through the net and the red part of the crowd cheered like crazy. I looked at the score board to check which team was in the lead.

'41 - 38'

We were in the lead.

I cheered with the crowd when both Zander and Jayre scored again and again for a whole 5 minutes. We were for sure in the lead. And I don't even know why I feel so proud, but I do.

And for some reason, my eyes just couldn't leave Jayre. Maybe it was because he always had the ball?

No. That it isn't the reason and you know it.

Did I know I know it? What was it?

Yes. You know it. It's because he's h-

No. Im gonna stop my thoughts right there and focus on the game.

As I snap out of my thoughts, my ears almost ring when they meet the sound of booing and screaming. I focus my eyes on the court and my breath hitches.

I see my own very best friend, sitting on the floor, holding his ankle in what one can only deem as pain.

I meet his eyes and it looks as if he's pleading for me to go there. Sure the thought was a bit self centered. But I don't care, that's my best friend out there.

I try to attempt jumping the barrier, but I keep failing, so I get Marissa to help me, she also has a shocked but confused look in her eyes. I didn't see the game since I was too lost thinking but I was sure that if everyone was this shocked and frustrated, something must've happened too fast.

Once I get my feet on the court, I break into a sprint right towards Zander, I see his eyes light up, and I drop to a crouch when I reach him.

"Zander? What happened?! I- I couldn't see clearly, I'm so sorry-" I paused for a moment to breathe. "Does it hurt?" I asked, though I don't know why, it was useless to ask that, the answer was clear.

"Nope, all sunshines and rainbows." Zander half laughed and half grimaced, I smile at him.

"Hm, maybe it's not so bad after all if you're still joking." I laugh and he grins. I loved spending time with Zander, he was my best friend after all.

"You're still wearing my number." he says softly, bringing his thumb to my cheek.

"Ah ah ah mister, you still need to get that injury I checked." I snort, looking around to check for the coach, but it looks like he's a bit busy. And by busy I mean fighting with another coach busy.

I sigh, "Who's the team captain?" I ask and I see Jayre step closer to where I'm crouching with Zander. His expression gives me an uneasy feeling though, it looked angry... hating, even.

Why though?

Wait.

I take in my position, the way I talked to Zander, the way I even had the audacity to wear Zander's number at the same time I wore Jayre's jersey.

Was Jayre jealous?

Did Jayre even get jealous from all the years i've known him? I scan my memories for a bit, I just need to find one moment Jayre had ever been jealous because of ME to confirm this theory.

"Are you sure? I bet I can do better!" I smirk, I always did better than almost everyone.

"Really? We'll see about that." Connor smirked.

Connor used to be my big time crush. He did pretty well in school, was nice and especially funny.

The bell rang and we looked at each other and laughed. "Till next time Haylee!" Connor smiled and I giggled.

"Bye Connor!" I smiled and went to my locker. Once I got there though, Jayre was waiting for me.

"Why are you so smiley." it wasn't like a soft or curious question, it was more like a demand to know.

"Nothing," I said, but I still made no effort to take the smile off my face.

"Is it cause of that stupid Connie kid?" he asked with a scowl.

"So what?" I huffed. "It's none of your business anyway." I said with a 'hmph' sound. Jayre stood quiet for a bit before storming off.

What could he possibly do?

Spoiler alert, Jayre beat him up and Connor never talked to me again, woo me!

"I am." Jayre's voice snaps me back into reality and I nod.

"Take him to the nurse please." I say, before looking at Zander with sympathy.

"I'll be fine Lee..." Zander mutters.

"I'll take him to the nurse." Jayre almost spits in his anger.

I flinch. Something was off in Jayre and I knew it. He must've noticed since he scratched the back of his neck and muttered a hushed sorry before asking the others of the team to help get Zander to the nurse.

What a game.
